“Say, ‘O My servants who have transgressed against their souls: do not despair of Allah’s mercy, for Allah forgives all sins. He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.’”
What a call! A call soaked in tenderness. A promise that melts even the heaviest guilt.
It doesn’t matter how far you've gone or how many times you've fallen. His door is never closed. His mercy is beyond all imagination. Return to Him, sincerely — and if you fall again, return again. A thousand times, a million times — each return is beloved to Him, as long as you are breathing. This is not the door of judgment. It is the door of love. The door of the One who created you, shaped you, and sees in you a servant worth forgiving.

The first step toward peace of mind is complete belief and surrender that God is the true doer, and that everything happens by His permission. So, relieve yourself from the anxiety of control and the burden of planning. You are only required to strive and take the steps; the outcome is already written by His wisdom.

I desire nothing in asking You except You Yourself; I ask You for nothing other than You;
and I seek from You none but You.
Clarification of the Sufi’s pure love for God
— especially in the path of Abu al-Hasan al-Shadhili
This supplication expresses the essence of pure, selfless love of God as understood in Sufism: loving Allah for His own sake, not for reward, fear, or worldly gain.
In the Shadhili path, founded by Imam Abu al-Hasan al-Shadhili, this love is characterized by:
Tawḥīd in intention: God is the goal, not a means to something else.
Freedom from attachment: One asks for God, not for what God gives.
Spiritual dignity: Reliance on Allah while living fully and responsibly in the world.
Balance: Deep spiritual presence with God without abandoning work, society, or worldly duties.
Abu al-Hasan al-Shadhili taught that the highest station is not to seek miracles, states, or gifts—but to seek Allah Himself, content with Him alone. This is why Shadhili spirituality emphasizes maʿrifa (true knowing of God), gratitude, humility, and inner independence from creation.
In short, this prayer is a distilled expression of ʿishq ilāhī (divine love):
Not Paradise, not protection from Hell—only God.

the ocean of Your lights,
the mine of Your secrets,
the tongue of Your proof,
the bride of Your dominion,
the imam of Your presence,
the adornment of Your kingdom,
the treasurer of Your mercy,
the path to Your Divine Law,
the one who delights in Your oneness,
the very eye of existence,
the cause within every being,
the eye through which creation beholds creation,
ever-advancing from the light of Your manifestations.
A prayer that endures by Your permanence
and remains by Your eternity,

O Opener, open my heart with Your light, teach me from Your knowledge,
grant me understanding about You, let me hear from You,
let me see by You, and grant me strength by Your power.

Illuminate my life with Your light, and make my will aligned with Your will,
for You are capable of all things.

O Allah, I end this day desiring good and detesting evil.
Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah,
Allah is the Greatest, there is no power and no strength except through Allah the Most High, the Supreme.

Guide me with Your light to Your light regarding whatever comes to me from You,
whatever issues from me toward You, and whatever flows between Your creation and me.
Make me close to You and tighten my bond with You by Your nearness.

Conceal me with the veils of Your honor, Your might, and Your protection,

Abu al-Hasan al-Shadhili (may Allah be pleased with him) is regarded, in the understanding of Dr. Ali Gomaa, as one of the great renovators of the spiritual path and a master who combined deep knowledge, profound wisdom, and complete reliance on Allah. He established the Shadhili path upon clarity, balance, and the purification of the heart through remembrance and presence with God.

Dr. Ali Gomaa often highlights that Imam al-Shadhili embodied the Prophetic inheritance in both knowledge and character. He taught his students to live in the world without being captured by it, to seek God through sincerity rather than isolation, and to perfect their worship by realizing the meanings of trust (tawakkul), gratitude, and witnessing the Divine blessings.

For Dr. Ali Gomaa, the Shadhili way is a path of light—free from excess, rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah, and guided by wisdom. Abu al-Hasan al-Shadhili stands as a model of the scholar-saint whose teachings continue to nourish hearts and guide seekers to God with balance, love, and inner clarity.
