Here’s a less common ACT Math tip that high scorers use:
Always look at the answer choices before solving.
Many students read the question and immediately start doing calculations. ACT writers often hide shortcuts in the answer choices.
For example, if the answers are:
A) 0.25
B) 0.5
C) 1
D) 2
you know the result must be relatively small. If your calculations are giving 18, you’ve probably made a mistake.
Another example:
If the answers are:
A) πr²
B) 2πr
C) πd
D) 2πd
You don’t need to derive every formula. You simply need to recognize whether the question is asking for area, circumference, diameter, etc.
