35 Years of Mushroom Jazz: A Halloween Celebration

Prepare for a legendary night as we celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the ground-breaking Mushroom Jazz series. This special Halloween edition brings the ultimate blend of funky instrumental hip hop, soulful downtempo, and blunted beats to the dance floor.

The creator of the legendary Mushroom Jazz series, Mark Farina is the undisputed master of the downtempo house sound. His sets are celebrated for their seamless transitions and curated selection of serious beats. Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Chuck Love joins Farina for his set.

Joining the celebration is DJ and producer Nutritious, a lifelong crate-digger and live improviser who has toured the Mushroom Jazz circuit with Farina himself across the US and on Jam Cruise. Known for his immersive, genre-blurring performances, he has appeared at iconic venues including a special performance at the Whitney Museum of American Art supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation. His deep curatorial instincts and musical range bring a unique, soulful dimension to this milestone anniversary.

Tickets range from free to $64.15: https://calendar.zeyzeymiami.com/shows/mark-farina-s-mushroom-jazz-halloween-edition-31-oct

Endless summer: Nutritious turns Bushwick's Danger Danger into an all-night sun ritual for 'Solarmaxxing'

Summer isn't over until Nutritious says it is.

The NYC-raised DJ's DJ, Liquid Culture founder and A&R, whose invites include the Whitney Museum and Pikes Ibiza, takes over hotspot Danger Danger Bushwick on Saturday, Sept. 19, digging deep in the crates from 9 p.m. straight through to 4 a.m to toast Solarmaxxing, his sun-drunk new album that just crashed in at No. 1 Most Added on the NACC electronic chart.

The record's already racked up love from Insomniac, Mixmag and DJ Mag, plus cosigns from Damian Lazarus, Adriatique, and legends Bill Brewster (author, "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life") and Lamb's Andy Barlow.

But we hear the fete is pulling doubles: it's a birthday bash for the woman behind it all, Zoe Wilder, the powerhouse Forbes crowned the "Cannabis Empressaria," also a founder of buzzy label and artist collective Liquid Culture.

Inside, expect zebra-print carpets, parrot chandeliers and a neon-lit den turned dance floor, with sponsors PAX, HoneyGrove x HoneyStash, Skyworld, My Bud Vase, Doreen Sullivan International, Psychedelics Design and DoubleBlind Magazine on hand, plus giveaways all night.

Mixmag says the album was "crafted for open-air venues, proper sound systems, and late-night sessions." Translation: you'll be greeting the sunrise on your way out.

Danger Danger, 232 Knickerbocker Ave., Brooklyn · Sat., Sept. 19, 9 p.m.–4 a.m.

I found this really inspiring ✨ the white walls meet Sol LeWitt’s Color Bands, and the work is dancing and rhythmic, visually musical, a radiant pull that’s hard to resist!

Eight prints of hypnotic curves and lines, composed as drawings and measurements, then executed by a master printmaker. Each one playing on the optical vibration of adjacent color.

🌈 A cosmic disco rainbow. ☀️

LeWitt once wrote “conceptual artists are mystics rather than rationalists. They leap to conclusions logic cannot reach.”

You feel it!

Solarmaxxing turns everything toward the sun: a six-song mini-album of selector-grade house music made for open air, proper soundsystems, and the rooms that run past midnight.

Listen here: https://sebek.vyd.co/Solarmaxxing

"You Belong" opens on the water with breezy strings, melodic bass, and easeful s**t vocals, pure sun-on-skin pleasure; "Solarmaxxing" takes summer outside, playful breakbeat percussion under bright, struck-string melody. "Star Child" rides machine drums, a purring acid bassline, and a sultry vocal into the heat of a city night, and "N**e" follows deeper underground: clap-back drums, echo, stealth bass, harmonium-like chords, sunrise through warehouse glass. "Loro" plants a massive soundsystem by the water, marimba heat and a rolling groove with palms swaying and boats drifting past the dancefloor. "Endless Summer" closes with rising piano, rattling jazz synths and polyrhythms over heavy, swung house, an ode to the ways summer brings people together wherever they are.

Solarmaxxing by Nutritious: heat, rhythm, and motion held past dark.

3/3 A who’s who✨

2012: Obama was re-elected, NASA’s Curiosity rover landed on Mars, and London hosted the Summer Olympics.

But in New York City, just weeks after Hurricane Sandy devastated neighborhoods, flooded subway tunnels, and plunged Lower Manhattan into darkness, we found a way to keep the lights 🪩 and the music 🔊on.

Fe**sh Authentic brought the energy to Viktor & Spoils, a hidden Lower East Side gem tucked inside the Hotel on Rivington, where resident Nutritious held court with marathon sets alongside legends including Honey Dijon, Dennis Ferrer, Nickodemus, Wiseacre, JKriv, Colette, Voices of Black (Wolf + Lamb), Body Language (OM Records), and more.

These archival photos capture a NYC underground scene fueled by community, creativity, and a deep love of house music.
