Introducing the EAC EMPOWER Impact Series: Finding Your Voice & Presence

We are pleased to introduce the Evolutionary Archetypes SL (EAC) EMPOWER Impact Series, beginning with our interactive Hateless.eu Train the Trainer session “Finding Your Voice & Presence”!

Running from September 2026 to April 2027, the series brings together youth workers, trainers and young facilitators for 30 free weekly online sessions combining practical training, virtual exchange and international peer learning across six progressive learning cycles:
1️⃣ Safe Space
2️⃣ Professional Equity
3️⃣ Mutual Value
4️⃣ Constructive Validation
5️⃣ Sustainable Growth
6️⃣ Self-Awareness

Creating a Safe Space
The first session, “Finding Your Voice & Presence”, explores how young people can overcome self-doubt, turn their cameras on, speak up and confidently occupy space in virtual environments.

Using non-formal participatory approaches inspired by Steven Pressfield's "The War of Art", you will:
• Learn how to recognise inner resistance
• Translate inner resistance into data about the path
• Experience how it feels to overcome inner resistance
• Explore how others made their own table when there was no place for them to sit
• Collect arguments to counter inner resistance holding us back from showing up
• Overcome your inner resistance by doing the opposite

What You'll Gain:
• Facilitate non-formal workshops
• Guide youth in recognising inner resistance
• Help young people realise their voice matters
• Use video storytelling to promote inclusion
• Get a ready-to-use training activity
• Join a global trainer community

When heavy rain reaches the ground, the type of surface it encounters can influence how much water infiltrates and how much flows across the surface.

Which change do you think is most likely to increase surface runoff after heavy rainfall?
Cast your vote in the Ecolution MSc poll!

🌧️ A new season, a new Ecolution MSc quiz!
As summer comes to an end and we enter September, we're turning our attention to rainfall, water movement, and surface runoff.

When heavy rainfall reaches the ground, what happens next depends partly on the surface it encounters. Some surfaces allow water to infiltrate into the soil more easily, while others can lead to more water flowing across the surface.

So, let's test your knowledge:
Which change is most likely to increase surface runoff after heavy rainfall?
1. More paved surfaces
2. Denser vegetation
3. More permeable soil
4. Greater infiltration

💬 Share your answer in the comments! We'll reveal the correct answer soon and explain why.

This week's question connects with topics explored through Hydrological and Climate Variability in the Ecolution MSc.

These are great examples to understand the difference between upskilling and reskilling - a distinction that matters when designing effective lifelong learning programmes and workforce policies.

Results from the Diamond Empower community poll show that 89% of participants correctly identified career transitioning from hospitality to software development as reskilling.

Learn more: https://diamond-empower.eu/

The results from our recent poll are in!

An overwhelming 89% of our community correctly identified the true example of reskilling: a hospitality worker training to become a web developer!

Here is why that distinction matters:
• Reskilling means learning new skills to move into a completely different career. When a hospitality worker learns programming, they are preparing for an entirely new industry and job profile.
• Upskilling means adding new skills to your current profession. A graphic designer learning AI or a project manager learning Agile are upgrading how they do their existing jobs.

Understanding the difference can help people choose the right learning pathway for their next career step - and help educators, trainers and community organisations provide more relevant and accessible support along the way.

Whether someone is building on existing strengths or preparing for an entirely new direction, the right learning opportunities can help build skills, confidence and pathways towards employment.

🌳 The Results Are In: How Much Can Urban Trees Cool Our Cities?

A few weeks ago, we asked:
On average, by how much do urban trees reduce air temperatures in European cities?
The correct answer is 0.8°C.

The Results:
Across LinkedIn, Instagram and X, the average percentage selecting the correct answer was 68%. But the results varied considerably between platforms.
On LinkedIn, only 29% chose 0.8°C, while the most popular answer was actually 2.5°C, selected by 41%. On Instagram, 75% got it right, while all responses on X selected the correct answer.
So, while the overall average points towards the right answer, the LinkedIn results show that many people expected the number to be considerably higher, which perhaps shows how easy it is to underestimate the difference that an average reduction of 0.8°C can make across a city.

What does the research actually tell us?
According to the European Commission, a study covering more than 600 European cities found that urban trees reduce air temperatures by an average of 0.8°C, with even greater cooling effects in some locations.
Trees cool their surroundings in two important ways: by providing shade and through evapotranspiration, the natural process through which plants release water vapour into the atmosphere.
And cooling isn't their only contribution. The European Commission also highlights that nature-based solutions can improve air quality, support biodiversity, reduce flood risk and help create healthier, more liveable cities.
An average reduction of 0.8°C may sound modest at first, but across an urban environment, it represents a measurable cooling effect. Combined with their wider environmental benefits, trees are doing much more than simply providing a shady place to escape the summer sun.

Choosing Kindness and Friendship Over Hate

In the second Hateless.eu participatory video from Estonia, 24-year-old Lisa Galkina worked with Eesti People to People to share how personal relationships restored her faith in kindness and mutual respect.
It takes a lot of courage to overcome hate and focus on the positive. We are very grateful that she decided to share her story with us. It’s amazing to see such genuine vulnerability turned into a force for positive change.

Understanding how job seekers and professionals navigate career transitions is vital for designing effective workforce development tools. Results from the Diamond Empower ᴱGROW Profiles poll show that 43.3% of respondents see themselves as Explorers seeking new career directions.

Explore the ᴱGROW Index framework and its person-centred approach: https://diamond-empower.eu/e-grow-index/

Learn more: https://diamond-empower.eu/

The results are in! Here is how our community voted on our recent DIAMOND ᴱGROW career growth profiles poll:

• Explorer (43.3%): The largest share of respondents identified with exploring new career directions, opportunities, and pathways.
• Accelerator (23.3%): Focused on progressing, developing further, and levelling up within their current career paths.
• Rebuilder / Pathfinder (18.3%): Navigating career pivots, rebuilding after workforce disruptions, or re-entering the workforce.
• Connector / FFuture-Skills Builder (15.0%): Expanding professional networks and building future-ready skills and capabilities.

These results are a reminder that there is no single path toward employment and career development. People may need different kinds of support depending on where they are in their journey - from building confidence and exploring possibilities to strengthening skills, networks, and pathways back into employment.

For educators, trainers, community organisations, and civil society actors, understanding these different starting points can help make learning and career support more accessible, relevant, and person-centred.

The ᴱGROW Index offers a framework for recognising these different needs and supporting people as they build the confidence and capabilities to take their next steps.

The results are in, and our Ecolution MSc audience knew this one!
100% of participants on LinkedIn and X correctly identified satellite imagery as a type of information commonly used to monitor environmental changes across large areas.

Satellite observations make it possible to repeatedly observe extensive areas and track how landscapes and environmental conditions change over time.

The topic connects directly with the Geospatial Data Sciences – Environmental Informatics course in the Ecolution MSc, where students explore geospatial information and its applications in environmental monitoring.

🛰️ The results are in: 100% chose satellite imagery!
In our latest Ecolution MSc poll, we asked:
Which type of information is commonly used to monitor environmental changes across large areas?

On LinkedIn, Instagram, and X, 100% of participants selected the correct answer: satellite imagery.

Earth observation satellites can repeatedly collect information across extensive areas, including locations that may be difficult to monitor consistently from the ground. By comparing observations over time, researchers can identify and track changes taking place across landscapes.

Satellite observations can support monitoring in areas such as:
• Vegetation and land-cover change
• Agriculture and resource mapping
• Air pollution
• Natural disasters
• Atmospheric conditions
• Long-term environmental change

This is also where geospatial knowledge becomes important. Satellite observations generate large amounts of spatial information, but making that information useful requires the ability to analyse, interpret, and connect it with environmental questions.

These are relevant areas within the Geospatial Data Sciences - Environmental Informatics course in the Ecolution MSc, where students explore the relationship between environmental information, geospatial technologies, and digital approaches to understanding our environment.

👏 Congratulations to everyone who got the answer right!
