In 1908, Japanese professor Kikuane Ikeda coined the term umami (“The Beautiful Taste”) when he realized how certain combined ingredients gave rise to a feeling of unusual intensity in one’s taste buds, the result of a new and unknown synergy. Our mission now, much like professor Ikeda in his time, is to discover that which intensifies the flavours present in the taste buds of our time. La sinestesia es la asimilación conjunta de diferentes sensaciones en un mismo acto perceptivo. Una persona sinestésica puede, por ejemplo, oír colores, saborear palabras o (incluso) sentir como la seda acaricia la piel a través de sus ojos.

Este film es una exploración de la catarsis de los sentidos a través de las formas en movimiento; una captura de las cualidades físicas de algo tan aparentemente etéreo como es el aire; un estudio de la subjetividad inherente a toda experiencia sensorial.

Synesthesia is the joint assimilation of different senses in the same perceptive act. A person with synesthesia can hear colours, taste words or (even) feel the silk caressing the skin through the eyes.

This film is an exploration of the catharsis of feelings through shapes in motion; a capturing of the physical qualities of something as seemingly ethereal as the air; a study of the inherent subjectivity of any sensory experience.

Ha pasado un año desde que fundamos THIS is UMAMI y, por fin, hemos tenido un poco de tiempo para lanzar nuestra web. Durante este primer año, hemos trabajado para clientes como Hitachi, Monólogo, UFEC o Freixenet, para los que hemos creado campañas, spots, webs, packagings, vídeos, libros, etiquetas de botellas de vino y muchísimas cosas más. Además, hemos hecho algunas portadas de discos porque no podemos evitarlo y siempre seremos rock 'n' roll animals, diseñado tipografías para pasarlo bien y hecho algunas fotos un poco locas. ¿Que quieres más? En nuestra web también encontrarás unicornios, cosas que vuelan y colores a granel. Esperamos que te guste.

After one year since THIS is UMAMI’s foundation, finally we have found time to launch our website. In this year we have worked for clients like Hitachi, Monólogo, UFEC or Freixenet. For them we have created campaigns, commercials, websites, packaging, films, books, wine labels… Also we have done some album covers because we will always be rock 'n' roll animals, we have designed typographies just for fun and we have shot crazy pictures. Do you want more? Sure thing! In our website you will find unicorns, floating stuff, all colours of the rainbow and tones of love. We sincerely hope you like it. Bon appétit!

Reflecting contemporary trends, we are a hybrid structure between design studio, advertising agency, production company and strategic consultants: a creative laboratory constantly evolving.
