VJ AYL

VJ and Graphic Designer It tells the story of how the character Ayl brings ‘varicoloured sumptuousness’ to an otherwise grey world.

VJ AYL comes from a Cosmocomic story, ‘Senze Colori,’ written by Italo Calvino, which describes how the world was before the existence of colour. Ayl was born out of deep love for both music and visual art forms and experiments with live drawing to explore the relationship between image and sound.

Designing brands gets richer and richer for me as time goes on and a lot of it isn't the actual designing part (though *obviously* I love that part too).

It's the bit where you envision the future, that's the hyper-creative bit for me. Trying to see something that doesn't exist and imagine its personality.

I've been having fun this year with creating quarterly vision boards for myself, not just clients. They help me to inspire play, understand the world (and myself) better and remind me of why I love what I do. Then I set them as a desktop background so I see them everyday.

*None of the work in the board is mine, they're all snapshots of random images I have collected over the last few months that have inspired me in some way.

Any quirky things you do to inspire yourself?

When I'm not designing, I like to play with colourful compositions and I do the odd exhibition or market here and there. It's a lot of fun to see how people react to your work in real time. Still grateful for the Artist's Way by for constantly reminding me of my love for art and the need to nourish your creativity.

Artist dates and regular journalling are key to keeping my work and play adventures alive, fun and focused.

For me, one is art and one is design and I find them so interlinked it's impossible to separate. They are just different perspectives and approaches to finding solutions. Maybe the important thing is to experiment and see where it takes you.

Here's a little peak at the live video workshop we did in February (time flies when you're having fun).
