Amadeu, the son of the last cinema director in Cabrils, is the most passionate film lover possible, but never followed the footsteps of his father into the film industry. But he collected and catalogued more than 7.500 movies over decades. “What will happen to my collection, when I will have gone?”, he once asked my while walking together our dogs, Liam and Max, in the mountains next to our Catalan village. “Well, I said, let’s go searching.” And that is, how our story began. First stop of our journey: the cinema in Cabrils, which was shut down 50 years ago. We do a screening of some filmed memory, and do reflect on the question, what role the cinema did play for social life and cultural identity here. 12.1224, 7 pm. Do you want to attend? The “chicken ladder” refers to the small seating sections in the old cinema of Cabrils (Barcelona, Spain), positioned on either side of the projection booth. This area was known for being the gathering place of mischievous individuals who would toss pine nut shells, smoke, and laugh to annoy other patrons. Amadeu Costa, the son of the last cinema owner in this quaint Catalan village, visits the dilapidated hall for the first time in 50 years to reminisce and share his stories. Christopher Langen and Amadeu Costa have captured these memories in a heartwarming portrayal of traditional Catalan cinema.
