According to Islamic tradition and genealogical records, Abraham had two primary sons: Ishmael (Isma'il) and Isaac (Ishaq).

The Branch of Isaac: Isaac's lineage led to Jacob, Moses, David, Solomon, and Jesus—forming the line of Hebrew prophets.

A major historical and geographical link between Abraham and Muhammad centers on the city of Mecca and the Kaaba (the black cubical structure at the center of Islam's most sacred mosque).

Islamic theology teaches that Abraham traveled to Arabia and, alongside his son Ishmael, rebuilt the Kaaba as the first house of monotheistic worship on Earth. When Muhammad was born centuries later, the local tribes had filled the Kaaba with pagan idols. Part of Muhammad’s primary mission was to clear the Kaaba of these idols and restore it to the pure monotheistic worship established by Abraham.

3. Theological Continuity:

In Islam, Muhammad did not bring a "new" religion; rather, he is seen as restoring the original faith of Abraham, which had become corrupted over time.

The First Muslim: The Quran explicitly refers to Abraham as a Muslim (meaning "one who submits to God") and a Hanif (a pure monotheist who never worshipped idols).

The Prayer of Abraham: Islamic tradition notes that when Abraham and Ishmael finished building the Kaaba, they prayed to God to send a messenger from among their descendants to guide the people. Muslims view the arrival of Muhammad as the literal answer to Abraham's ancient prayer.

Daily Remembrance: Every single day during their five daily prayers, Muslims recite a blessing known as the Durood Ibraahimiyyah, explicitly asking God to send peace and blessings upon Muhammad and his family, just as He sent peace and blessings upon Abraham and his family.

If you believe that today's agitations for a sovereign Yoruba nation are a recent phenomenon, history begs to differ. Decades before the current wave of secessionist movements, one young man took a bold, solitary stand.

His name was Mr. Modiyu Adeniyi Osinowo.

In 1960, while the rest of the country was celebrating Nigeria's newly minted independence from British colonial rule, the 27-year-old school headmaster was deeply disillusioned. The catalyst for his outrage was the political mistreatment and perceived disrespect aimed at Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a foundational leader of the Western Region.

Driven by this provocation, Osinowo launched a passionate, one-man campaign advocating for the separation of Yorubaland from Nigeria. He envisioned a partition similar to the historic split between India and Pakistan.

"Let’s have our own Pakistan," Osinowo famously declared. "If they could rubbish Awo like this, they will start defecating on us sooner or later. Let’s have our own sovereignty."

Osinowo’s radical stance made him a target. Just five years after launching his campaign, his life was cut short when he was assassinated.

Flash Forward to 2026
Decades later, the echoes of Osinowo's warnings still reverberate. For modern proponents of Yoruba self-determination, the ongoing security crises and territorial incursions by armed groups across the region are seen as vindication of his fears. To many, the current state of unrest serves as grim, clear evidence that the young headmaster’s predictions in 1960 were tragically prophetic.

My Thoughts
It is a fascinating piece of history. Osinowo’s story highlights a recurring theme in Nigerian history: regional anxieties and friction regarding the structure of the federation have existed since day one.

Using Pakistan as a blueprint in 1960 shows just how deeply he felt the regional fractures, even at the very dawn of independence. His assassination also underscores how dangerous political dissent was during the First Republic, a turbulent era that eventually led to the Western Region crisis (Wild West) and the 1966 coups.

Whether one views him as a visionary who foresaw today's security challenges or a radical secessionist, his story proves that the debates over Nigeria's structure and unity are as old as the nation itself.
