Butterflies are everywhere at the moment! Summer has arrived, but with the rain we had there have been plenty of opportunities for insects to thrive.
For these illustrations, I loved simplifying their shapes in an almost pattern like way, and using textures. Which one is your favorite?

Bears, they fascinate me. I was completely mesmerized the moment I saw my first (and only!) bear ever and been drawing them ever since. Seeing one completely changed my perception of them, does that make sense? Just to see an animal in real life and feel it’s presence really helps me ‘feel it’s story’, and it’s one of the reasons I love to travel and see new places. It helps me grow as an artist and designer.

The light can turn the same landscape into something completely different, changing the mood and atmosphere within minutes. Soft pink skies, deep purples , warm orange at sunset… sometimes it feels like nature is constantly repainting itself. I love how many colors you can find outside when you really start paying attention, and how the exact same place can feel wild, calm, dramatic, or almost unreal just because the light changed. I love trying to capture those colors and feelings in my work. I also love cormorants

From sketch to illustration. Every design starts with an idea, or often, multiple ideas. Simple pencil sketches enable me to show my client what happens in my mind, and from there, we work towards the final illustration.
Here are a couple of cards from a Nature Insight Card deck I designed, plus the first pencil sketches

For Our Planet Week this year I’ll be weaving in and out of the challenge, joining where I can with art work, to connect with others that love nature as much as I do 💙 today’s prompt is which made me think of the way birds use thermal streams to soar through the skies

Today, April 14, is International Dolphin Day.
This day is a good reminder of why dolphins and their ocean homes matter. It’s a chance for people who care, from scientists to everyday nature lovers, to be on the same page and do their part.

It’s great to see more people paying attention to dolphins, but there’s still plenty we can improve. Things like dolphin shows are still around, which shows there’s more room to learn and rethink how we see them.

Every bit of awareness helps, and the more we talk about it, the more things can start to shift

Roseate spoonbills, a gyr falcon in Glacier National Park, a capercaillie in the Cairngorms. Every bird tells a story.

The way they look and the way they behave starts to make more sense when you understand where they live.

When I’m drawing animals, I love to include elements from their habitat, like native plants or small local details, to carry a bit of that story into the illustration.

So many landscapes, so many different animals! While I’ve been a bit quieter on here I haven’t been sitting still, and have been working for an amazing variety of nature loving clients. As it goes with new releases and planning, it often happens that I cannot share what I’ve been working on until months or even longer after.
Here’s a little overview I made of the many animals I do a while ago, and it kind of feels time to make a collection like this again 😁
