As a company working every day with photographers and artists, we should have thought more carefully about that choice. Sorry about that!
But the issue itself is very real and important.
The EU’s new packaging rules (PPWR/EPR) can require businesses selling and shipping products to other EU countries to register, report and pay fees separately in each country – potentially even when annual sales to that country are very small.
We fully support reducing packaging waste and taking responsibility for the environmental impact of what we ship.
For photographers, artists, craftspeople and other small businesses, paying hundreds of euros in registration and compliance costs in a country where they might sell only a few hundred euros worth of work per year simply doesn’t make sense.
The result may be that many small businesses have no realistic option but to stop selling to customers in those EU countries.
We need a fair and proportional solution: a micro-business exemption or a simple EU-wide system where businesses pay according to the actual amount of packaging they send.
This is about protecting both the environment and the possibility for small creative businesses to trade across Europe.
