A new project. And a new role for MediAlena

September marks the beginning of Second Bloom: Migrant Women 40+ as Community Wellbeing Leaders in Europe — a new Erasmus+ Small-scale Partnership in Adult Education coordinated by MediAlena in Finland.

Second Bloom focuses on migrant women aged 40+ — women who carry knowledge, life experience, skills and cultural capital, but whose potential is not always fully recognised or connected to opportunities for participation and leadership.

The project will explore how adult learning and peer support can help women move from being participants to becoming active contributors and community wellbeing leaders.

Over the next 12 months, Second Bloom will develop and pilot a life-stage-sensitive peer-facilitator model, bringing together migrant women in Finland, Greece and Denmark to strengthen:

✨ confidence and participation
✨ peer leadership
✨ community engagement
✨ wellbeing and social inclusion
✨ recognition of existing skills and experience

The partnership brings together:

🇫🇮 MediAlena, Finland — Coordinator
🇬🇷 The A40s , Greece
🇩🇰 Metamorphoses of Love, Denmark

For MediAlena, this project represents an important milestone.

After contributing to European projects through communications and dissemination, MediAlena is now taking on the full role of Erasmus+ project coordinator — from partnership and implementation to monitoring, dissemination and impact.

Second Bloom runs from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027 under Erasmus+ KA210-ADU.

Stronger women. Stronger communities. A more inclusive Europe.

✨ It is never too late to learn, grow and create new opportunities.

We are excited to announce that EmpowerAge will be part of Erasmus Days 2026!

📍 Bologna, Italy
📅 14 October 2026
🕝 14:30–18:30
🎟️ Open to the public

Hosted by our Italian partner La Casa del Faro APS, the “Never Too Late” multiplier event will bring together the experiences, findings and results of the EmpowerAge project.

Over the past months, EmpowerAge has explored what women 40+ need to feel more confident and included in an increasingly digital world and turned those needs into practical learning opportunities.

During the event, we will share:

💜 key findings from our Needs Analysis with women 40+
💻 practical insights into digital skills and digital confidence
🤖 learning around AI and new technologies
🗣️ participants’ experiences and testimonies
🌱 discussions on communication, soft skills, entrepreneurship and sustainable professional development
📚 the EmpowerAge Toolkit — an open-access collection of practical activities, methodologies and resources for educators and organisations working with adult women

We will also continue an important conversation at the heart of EmpowerAge: how can lifelong learning help challenge gender ageism and create more opportunities for women after 40?

Because learning does not have an age limit.

And neither does growth 💜

Happy Entrepreneur’s Day! 💙

Building something of your own can be exciting, rewarding and sometimes incredibly lonely.

At MediAlena, I believe good ideas grow stronger when people connect, collaborate and make each other visible.

So today, let’s use this space for a little networking.

👇 Tell me about your business or project in the comments:

What do you do? Where are you based? Who can you help?

And feel free to tag another entrepreneur whose work deserves more attention.

Because someone reading this might be your next client, partner or collaborator.

Today, let’s promote people - not just algorithms 👇🏻

A new European project. A topic that deserves to be much more visible 🇪🇺

I’m very happy to introduce STILL EQUAL: Combating Gendered Ageism and Intersectional Discrimination in European Workplaces— a new European project bringing together partners from six countries.

STILL EQUAL focuses on gendered ageism: what happens when gender discrimination and age bias overlap - affecting women’s opportunities, career progression and visibility in the labour market.

And these inequalities do not exist in isolation.

For many women, age and gender intersect with migration background, ethnicity, religion and other structural barriers, creating additional layers of discrimination.

Over the next two years, STILL EQUAL will combine research with practical action.

The project will generate cross-country evidence on gendered ageism, work with employers and employees on more inclusive workplace practices, develop practical tools and training resources, and bring the experiences of women 40+ into a wider European conversation.

🇫🇮 MediAlena represents Finland in the consortium.

My role will include coordinating the project’s communication and dissemination strategy, EU visibility, communication impact and the dissemination of research, tools and policy results across different European audiences.

One part I’m especially excited about is Experience Counts — STILL EQUAL’s flagship digital storytelling campaign.

Through personal stories, video, podcasts, photo stories and social media, the campaign will make the professional experiences and voices of women 40+ from diverse backgrounds more visible.

Because data helps us understand discrimination.
But stories help us understand what it feels like to live through it.

And that is exactly why I believe communication in projects like this is not simply about telling people what has been done.

Communication can be part of the change itself.

I’m very proud to work on STILL EQUAL alongside:

🇬🇷 The A40s — Greece, Project Coordinator
🇦🇹 Universität Wien — Austria
🇪🇸 Sindicato Fetico — Spain
🇭🇺 SocialFokus— Hungary
🇸🇪 Add Gender — Sweden
🇫🇮 MediAlena— Finland

Over the coming months, I’ll be sharing much more about the research, people, stories and tools being developed through STILL EQUAL.

Because experience should count.
And equality should not have an age limit 💙

What happens when digital transformation moves faster than people’s confidence, skills and access?

One of the European projects MediAlena is currently involved in is EmpowerAge — Bridging the Digital Divide for Older Women, an Erasmus+ adult education project focused on digital inclusion and empowerment of women 40+💜

The project looks beyond digital skills alone.

For many women, especially later in professional life, digital transformation can affect access to information, learning, employment opportunities, services and social participation. New technologies — including AI — are developing rapidly, while confidence and access do not always develop at the same pace.

That is why EmpowerAge started by listening.
More than 100 women participated in the project’s needs analysis. Their responses showed a strong demand for practical digital skills, accessible learning formats, greater confidence and support in navigating new digital tools.
Because digital inclusion is not simply about technology.
It is about confidence, independence, participation and opportunity.

MediAlena is the Finnish partner in the project and is responsible for communications and dissemination, helping make the project’s activities, participants’ voices and results visible to a wider European audience.

The EmpowerAge partnership brings together:
🇬🇷 Association of Women over 40 The A40s The A40s — Greece, coordinator
🇮🇹 La Casa del Faro APS La Casa del Faro APS La Casa del Faro APS — Italy
🇫🇮 MediAlena MediAlena — Finland

For MediAlena, EmpowerAge brings together several areas that have become central to its work: European cooperation, adult education, communications, women 40+ and social impact.

A new chapter for MediAlena 🌿

MediAlena started with communications, digital content and community building.

And then, little by little, the work grew beyond that.

Today, MediAlena is a Finland-based organisation working at the intersection of European projects, adult education, communications and social impact.

The focus is on projects and initiatives connected with:

✨ adult and lifelong learning
✨ digital and social inclusion
✨ women 40+ and migrant communities
✨ community wellbeing
✨ international cooperation
✨ meaningful communication and dissemination

Communications are still an important part of MediAlena — but now they are part of a much bigger picture.

Today, MediAlena is involved in European cooperation and Erasmus+ projects, working together with organisations from different countries to create learning opportunities, communities and real social impact.

And this page is entering a new chapter too.

Here we’ll share more about the projects MediAlena is working on, the people and organisations behind them, what happens along the way, what we learn — and what all this work creates in real life.

Same MediAlena. A bigger vision. A new chapter 🩵

Another STILL EQUAL partner has introduced our new European project — and we are very happy to share their perspective!

Gender discrimination does not disappear when women reach 40.

Too often, it simply becomes less visible.

STILL EQUAL brings together organisations from Greece, Austria, Spain, Hungary, Sweden and Finland to address **gendered ageism and intersectional discrimination in European workplaces**.

Over the next two years, we will work together to generate evidence, challenge stereotypes and develop practical solutions that can help workplaces become fairer and more inclusive.

MediAlena is proud to represent Finland in this European partnership 💚

Thank you, Add Gender, for such a powerful introduction to the project. We are looking forward to what we will create together!

Därför kliver Add Gender nu in som stolt partner i EU-projektet STILL EQUAL.

💪 Vi förenar krafterna för att synliggöra, utmana och bygga bort de här strukturella hindren på europeiska arbetsplatser:

🇬🇷 Grekland – The A40s - Association of Women over 40 (Projektkoordinator)
🇦🇹 Österrike – Universität Wien
🇪🇸 Spanien – Confederación Sindical Independiente Fetico
🇭🇺 Ungern – SocialFokus
🇫🇮 Finland – MediAlena Digital & Media Agency
🇸🇪 Sverige – Add Gender AB ✌

Tillsammans tar vi oss an utmaningarna för en mer jämställd arbetsmarknad i hela Europa! 🚀
