AMA Hosts World Bank Delegation to Discuss Market Access for Smallholder Farmers

The Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA), led by Executive Chairman Mr. Jone Sovalawa, was pleased to host a delegation from the World Bank for a productive discussion focused on strengthening market access for Fiji's smallholder farmers.

During the meeting, AMA shared its experiences and perspectives on key issues affecting AMA, including:

1. Barriers faced by smallholder farmers in accessing reliable and profitable markets;

2. Current approaches being implemented to reduce these barriers and create greater market opportunities;

3. Challenges associated with aggregating produce from farmers, such as transportation logistics, quality consistency, operational costs, and geographical distances; and

4. Practical strategies and solutions that AMA has successfully implemented to improve market connectivity and support farmer participation in commercial agriculture.

The engagement provided an important platform to showcase AMA's ongoing efforts in building stronger agricultural value chains, improving market coordination, and enhancing opportunities for rural farming communities throughout Fiji.

AMA remains committed to working collaboratively with development partners, government stakeholders, and farming communities to create a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agricultural sector that benefits farmers and consumers alike.

AMA thanks the World Bank delegation, World Bank Senior Economist Mr. Roy Parizat and World Bank Natural Resource Management Specialist Mr. Fabio Farinosi, for the constructive discussions and their continued interest in supporting agricultural development and rural livelihoods in Fiji.
