Have you already considered expanding to ? 🤔 It seems like it’s going to be a growing trend for US sellers…

U.S.-based sellers are looking at overseas expansion as one of their primary focus areas this year, with the and Germany being two of the largest markets for Amazon's marketplace.

This is due to their relative stability, cultural demographic and rising per capita income, as well as their size and reliability, making them a big draw for sellers as they navigate unpredictable economic times.

The German economy is expected to expand by 0.2% this year, making it a good base for brands to expand into Europe, making it cheaper and more convenient to ship to markets like Italy, Sweden and Denmark.

Agency heads say that clients are being more in diversifying to other countries in order to better protect their businesses from global factors like the Ukraine war, the energy crisis and rising inflation.

Germany also has a culture of acceptance, and the people there seem to be more open to try things. Germany is centrally located in the European Economic Area, making it easy for brands to expand there 👇

As we enter an economic downturn across , and multi-channel businesses are set to be impacted ↘️ Ecommerce businesses need to have real-time visibility over operations and the impact on their balance sheets. Data plays a key role in this, as it allows ecommerce businesses to understand where – or where not to spend their money.

Shifting focus towards leading indicators requires ecommerce businesses to tap into the metrics which tell them the most valuable information 👇

🟢 Free cash flow (FCF) – A surging FCF indicates increased earnings and a potentially longer runway, but is also a valued indication of success for investors.
🟢 Cash runway – Having a clear idea of how long a runway has left provides a reliable indicator of how much money is needed to be raised or saved and the timeline for that.
🟢 Sales-per-employee – Boosting sales with a stable or shrinking workforce shows efficiency, and a strong sales-per-employee ratio can result in far higher valuations.
🟢 Return rate – Returns are often costly – both in a monetary and time sense – and unhappy customers are less likely to return. A high return rate is often a clear sign of wider problems within the business, such as product quality, packaging quality and product listing page (PLP) accuracy.
🟢 Customer lifetime value (CLTV) – CLTV provides key insights. A declining CLTV can be a sign of a number of issues, but it can also be common amid an economic downturn due to tightened budgets.
🟢 Contribution margin – Keeping a close eye on contribution margins can help to make better, more informed decisions on where retailers can cut – or increase – costs to be more efficient and see greater returns.
🟢 Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) Payback Period - Particularly during an economic downturn, it’s vital that any money spent has an efficient return period. This will help to grow or steady cash reserves.

Are you already feeling the effects of the European economic downturn on your business? Do you think that sales on marketplaces such as Amazon will be less affected because of the notoriety of the marketplace itself? 🧐

What goes on behind a request? More than you think 👇

Step 1️⃣ Translation. The translator takes care of the translation, and reviews and runs a check before sending their work to the proofreader.
Step 2️⃣ Linguistic review (or proofreading). The — which is not the same person who took care of the translation step – goes through the work of the translator and edits it when needed. They also run a check.
Step 3️⃣ Linguistic review implementation. At this stage, a 3rd person confirms any edits made by the proofreader. Usually, they mainly run a check and make sure guidelines are met (guidelines can refer to style, tone, terminology, etc.).
Step 4️⃣ Final check. The final content layout is checked to make sure it reflects the original layout.

These are all necessary steps to guarantee the quality of a translation. Now, if…

👭 You work with a translation – this is the standard process they should have in place. Some translation agencies and language service providers might skip a step for lowering the overall cost and increasing their margins.
🧑‍💻 You work with a translator – most of the time, a freelance translator works solo. In some cases, they pair up with another translator for implementing a process similar to the one illustrated above.

How do you know how many steps you’re actually paying for? It’s as simple as asking (and now you can compare and challenge the answer of your service provider).

⭐️ Did you already try Amazon Vine? ⭐️

With Amazon Vine, a seller submits 30 units of inventory for review, which are then shipped to specially selected Vine reviewers for free. Vine reviewers, known officially as "Vine Voices", are chosen by Amazon based on the helpfulness of their previous reviews. The benefit of Amazon Vine is clear, as you are almost guaranteed to receive 30 detailed, high-quality reviews through this program.

And here are other ways to get more reviews… 🚀

🙇‍♀️ One of the easiest ways to help ensure customers leave good reviews is to provide excellent customer service. Remember, even if a customer returns a product, they can still leave a review based on your customer service, so it is important that you try to be quick and friendly when dealing with all customer queries.

🙇 Product inserts are one of the most popular ways to encourage shoppers to leave reviews on Amazon. Amazon prohibits inserts that ask customers specifically for positive reviews and/or that try to discourage negative reviews by telling customers to contact them instead. To ensure compliance with Amazon's guidelines, it is critical that you do not solicit positive reviews or offer incentives for customers to leave you a review.

🙇‍♂️ As many as 77% of shoppers are happy to leave a product review if a business asks them to. Instead of relying on Amazon's automatic emails or Amazon's "request a review" button, you are much more likely to solicit reviews if you send out your own personalized follow-up emails.

🙌 You also may find it beneficial to periodically remind your followers to leave reviews for recent items purchased through Amazon. Remind your followers that you are trying to build a brand, and it would help you if they left honest feedback on your products.

Once again – and is what motivated us when we decided to hire Aurélie. She had a previous experience in custumer service and project managing, but wanted to gain experience by joining a company that does business internationally 🚀 She has been discovering with great energy (and patience) the amazing world of , and . Believe me when I say that it’s a real jungle – Kudos to her for keeping up with the daily tasks! Let’s hear what she has to say…

🧑‍💻 What’s your background?

Like Yohann, I am also from Lyon. I have a bachelor degree in Management & International Business and I am attending a master’s program in Project Management . I opted for an apprenticeship contract to allay theory and practice - I truly believe that this is the best and fastest way to learning new skills. To put my work life aside, I always have been passionate by travelling and discovering new cultures.

💼 What’s your role at uptimaz?

I am a Junior Project Manager! I help with most of the daily tasks related to managing translation and optimisation projects. I have started by screening and onboarding new vendors and replying to any questions they might have, and soon I will be handling small projects from beginning to end. This is a challenging experience, which is exactly what I need to stay motivated.

🍰 … and your favourite dessert?

My favourite desert is ‘mikate’, a Congolese beignet that you eat with peanut butter… it tastes AMAZING!!!
