🌖 **Constellation of Two Moons** 🌖

Witness a brief celestial encounter between two artists during the Chinese New Year and Ramadan in Georgetown, Penang, a Unesco World Heritage site as and .emma.rose align their lenses for “Constellation of Two Moons.” Curated by .lui during her photo retreat, this pop-up installation captures the ethereal beauty of a moment that’s here today and gone tomorrow.

• Curator’s note: As the world plunges into war we can only be relieved for a brief moment of respite. Art gives us this moment of intentional pause to reflect upon the ephemeral quality of life and its beauty.

Nadia with her Tunisian culture and intimate sensibility to textiles and the stories they tell, weaves for us images of a Georgetown that bring her back to a childhood in Tunisia with each call of prayer, but with that extra magical touch of something « other », the Chinese Lunar Year and Malaysia’s landscape of multicultural diversity.

Emma with her camera and lively imagination as constant companions, sees Penang through her very own rose-tinted glasses. An incorrigible romantic with a fierce love for beauty, she renders her characters timeless through their everyday existences, sprinkling her own light and shadow, creating new stories and narratives

Je porte ce projet de livre depuis 5 ans, depuis ma rencontre avec ces femmes trans latinas qui se prostituent au bois de Boulogne pour survire. Ce qui rend ce livre si précieux à mes yeux, c’est que ces femmes ont accepté de prendre la parole et de se laisser photographier. Invisibles au cœur du bois, ignorées, insultées, méprisées, agressées, elles ont trouvé la force de se dévoiler, de témoigner, et de dire enfin au monde leur vérité.

I’ve been working on this book project for 5 years, ever since I met these Latin trans women who pr******te themselves in the Bois de Boulogne to survive. What makes this book so precious to me is that these women agreed to speak out and let themselves be photographed. Invisible in the heart of the Bois, ignored, insulted, scorned and attacked, they found the strength to reveal themselves, to bear witness, and to finally tell the world their truth.

Car Emmanuelle est en chaise roulante et le combat de vie est permanent : pour ses droits, pour le respect, le regard.
Derrière cette lutte se devine la féminité, la sensibilité à fleur de peau, à fleur de poil (celui de son chien d’assistance).
Sa force et sa résilience m’ont touchée.

I met Emmanuelle 1 year ago.
As she said ‘Nothing works but me’ (Rien ne roule sauf moi).
Because Emmanuelle is in a wheelchair and her life is a constant struggle: for her rights, for respect, for the way people look at her.
Behind this struggle lies her femininity, her sensitivity on her skin, on the hair of her assistance dog.
Her strength and resilience touched me.
I’m delighted to present this series as part of the Off programme.

Si vous trouvez votre véritable vocation, vous contribuerez à détruire complètement ce système corrompu. Que vous soyez jardinier, peintre ou ingénieur, vous ferez quelque chose que vous aimez de tout votre être ; et ce n’est pas de l’ambition. Réaliser quelque chose de merveilleusement bien, de manière complète, sincère, selon vos pensées et vos sentiments profonds, ce n’est pas de l’ambition, et en cela, il n’y a pas de peur. Vous aider à découvrir votre véritable vocation est très difficile, car cela implique que l’enseignant accorde une grande attention à chaque élève pour découvrir ses capacités. Il doit vous aider à ne pas avoir peur, mais à questionner et à explorer. Vous pouvez être un écrivain, un poète ou un peintre en herbe – quoi qu’il en soit, si vous aimez vraiment ce que vous faites, vous n’êtes pas ambitieux, car en amour, il n’y a pas d’ambition. Il est donc très important, dès votre plus jeune âge, de vous aider à éveiller votre propre intelligence et à trouver ainsi votre véritable vocation. Alors vous aimerez ce que vous faites, toute votre vie durant, ce qui signifie qu’il n’y aura plus d’ambition, plus de compétition, plus de luttes pour une position ou un prestige. Alors peut-être pourrez-vous créer un monde nouveau. Dans ce monde nouveau, toutes les vilaines choses de l’ancienne génération cesseront d’exister : leurs guerres, leurs méfaits, leurs dieux séparatistes, leurs rituels dénués de sens, leurs gouvernements souverains, leur violence. C’est pourquoi la responsabilité des enseignants et des élèves est immense.

Since its inception in 2013, the 6-month masterclass will continue its new 9-month program for the second year in a row. After positive feedback from participants, we found that a nine-month masterclass is highly beneficial for many photographers, allowing them to move forward without haste in their respective projects. Nine months will allow naturally more time to reflect and assimilate the evolution of their research, its highlights and difficult moments, as well as their artistic and technical advances. Slowing down is essential to our well-being and our learning abilities. This is even truer today, when digital technology, while seemingly convenient, has accelerated our lives at every level, often leaving a taste of frustration. This 9-month period will also allow us to exchange and dialogue at greater length with others, marking important moments where we learn from each other and understand how each person evolves thanks to valuable testimonies.

Seems like only yesterday when we were in Arles. Diana is proud as always to show the work of diverse talents during her summer photo workshop « An Intimate Nature » in Arles . It’s been 15 years since Diana gave her first workshop in the longest running photo festival in the world. She thanks for their wonderful help, positive energy and constant presence. A special thanks as well to the director of Rencontres’ photo workshops Fabrice Courthial and his production team for the many years of support. Have a great Summer 🌻🌻🌻📸!
