Serra/Seurat - Drawings

✏️The importance of drawing in the work of famous French Neo-Impressionist Georges Seurat (1859-1891), founder of Pointillism, has been overshadowed by his paintings. However, his drawings were held in high esteem by his artist peers, such as Maximilien Luce, Vincent van Gogh, and Paul Signac and later by Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, Bridget Riley, and, perhaps surprisingly, even Richard Serra.

The exhibition features a selection of 22 rarely seen drawings by Seurat in dialogue with those of Serra. Serra’s recent series Ramble Drawings, begun in 2015, is also on show for the first time

A learning and unlearning of locomotions in posthuman environments and times.

A history of the female artists

Referring to the famous line "a rose is a rose is a rose" from Gertrude Stein's poem Sacred Emily, the exhibition delivers a hitherto rarely documented survey of the work of widely diverse female artists in Switzerland. 🥀
In five thematically interlinked chapters guest curator Elisabeth Bronfen examines the relationship between visual art and sexual differences and draws into focus the specifically Swiss version of Postmodernism which speaks about and reflects upon a unique legacy of the modern and postwar eras.

📷On the occasion of the 8th Triennial of Photography Hamburg 2022, the Bucerius Kunst Forum is presenting the first international retrospective on Herbert List (1903–1975) in over two decades and in 7 chapters: Early Days in Hamburg, Fotografia Metafisica, Greece, Young Men, Italy, Artist Portraits and Reportage.
The show offers a unique overview of the oeuvre of the Magnum photographer from Hamburg with some 240 vintage prints, first editions of publications and rarely shown reportage photographs.

Peter Weber - Structure and Change

⭕️The exhibition highlights the diversity of Weber's practice with a focus on multi-part folding cycles, steel sculptures and lesser-known early works which he developed as a student in the tradition of Op Art and Kinetics. Also, on view are experimental reliefs as well as flickering pictorial objects involving rippled glass, and painted interferences that create spatial illusions on the basis of a programmed design using overlapping linear grids.
