Exhibition Catalogue

We first met Parinaz and Peter about a year ago, when they invited us to create the identity for Peter’s upcoming exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery in London—an exhibition exploring painting, music, and sound. The idea of making a catalogue in the shape of a 12-inch record emerged almost instinctively. We remember our meeting at The Boot pub, following a visit to Tramps’ new spaces in King’s Cross, where we discussed the format and shape. From that moment on, we worked closely together to define the publication as a physical object: a stapled red edition housed in a white cardboard sleeve, with smoky translucent paper echoing the technical drawings of the restored analogue speakers presented in the exhibition.

We are deeply grateful to them for trusting us from the very beginning—both in our ideas and in our approach—and for allowing us to contribute to a project whose impact has been so nourishing and inspiring. We learned so much throughout the process, particularly through discovering Peter’s wide-ranging taste for music and sound.

The catalogue includes a newly commissioned text by Michael Bracewell exploring the intersection of music and visual arts; a concise history of sound system development for theatres by Laurence Passera; poems by Linton Kwesi Johnson and Derek Walcott; and an in-depth conversation between the artist and Serpentine’s Artistic Director, Hans Ulrich Obrist. Alongside these contributions, the publication features reproductions of paintings and installation views, archival documents, and engineering diagrams of the sound systems presented in the exhibition.

The catalogue was released on January 13th as part of the Brian Eno Sound Service programme. House of Music is presented at Serpentine South from 10 October 2025 to 8 February 2026.
