In 2018, local ads on mobile devices sold by pure-play mobile providers will hit $19 billion, with traditional media players selling another $3.1 billion in mobile ads, according to a new forecast from BIA/Kelsey, relayed by MediaPost. “Mobile has become a preferred platform for the advertising dollar because of its ability to capture audiences of all ages based precisely on where they are and what they are doing, at any given moment,” according to Mark Fratrik, chief economist and SVP at BIA/Kelsey. Based on that report, the “mobile/social” category will therefore become the third-largest local ad platform in 2018.

A study by Wyzowl found that Google & Facebook are considered the first- and second-most effective video platforms for marketing. 78.8% of marketers surveyed find YouTube an effective video platform for marketing, followed by Facebook with 58.5%, and Webinar with 37.9%. Mobile Marketer reports that the number of downloads last year jumped 60% from 2015 to more than 175 billion, as the average smartphone user has 80 apps on their phone, using forty of them in a month.
