A standout evening for our Fifth Ring Americas team at the 2025 HBMA Lantern Awards in Houston. Isabella Brunetti, Sally Lechin and Joy Xhindole represented us on stage, bringing home an impressive set of honors that reflect the strength and ambition of our global work.

The team accepted three Lantern Awards and three Awards of Excellence, celebrating high-quality work across brand, strategy, digital and our collaborations with Phillips 66 and Bristow Group. These wins demonstrate the impact of our approach and the consistency of results delivered across regions.

A major highlight was the recognition for Predictive Revenue, our strategy-led program designed to help clients identify Business Qualified Leads (BQLs). The initiative brings together data insight, ABM and clear storytelling to give organizations a more accurate and commercially meaningful path to pipeline generation.

We are all extremely proud to share that our colleague Ian Ord has been commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant for the City of Aberdeen. This prestigious appointment recognises Ian’s dedication to community and service, marking a significant honour in his life and career.

Ian joins a remarkable group of new Deputy Lieutenants, including Graeme Kinghorn, Myles Edwards, Morven Mackenzie, Rita Stephen, and Dr Hector Williams. Together, with existing DLs, they will support the Lord-Lieutenant, Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Dr David Cameron in carrying the great work of the Lieutenancy and promoting the City of Aberdeen.

Reflecting on this honour, Ian shared, “I am humbled and excited and looking forward to serving alongside my fellow Deputy Lieutenants and contributing to the civic life of our great city.”

Who was Miyamoto Musashi? Well, he was the greatest swordsman ever to live. But how did he become the greatest? Through mastery of strategy and discipline.

Musashi’s book, the Book of Five Rings, gives insight into how to master your craft and learn the “way” of strategy. His book focuses on sword fighting, but his philosophy can be applied to any personal or professional aspect of life.

The essence of our brand is based on the modern-day telling of Musashi’s book. Everything we do - our brand identity and day-to-day operations are all shaped around his approach.

With exhibitions, it can be about playing the long game.

The exhibition calendar was heavily impacted during the pandemic, but as the business world returns to activity, exhibitions are proving a welcome way for people to meet up face to face once again.

Take the recent OTC energy industry exhibition and conference in Houston, attended by our Head of Media Relations, Andy Groundwater.

Lots of business was done at the show. But Andy found that even if deals weren’t signed, sealed and delivered during the week, the opportunity to connect with people strengthened relations and will likely reap rewards in the months ahead.

The right people were in the right place. This meant an array of conversations that would take months to line up in teams calls were packed into a few days.

You have to make choices, especially about how to position yourself in this array of options.

How do you do that?

Let’s start with the word ‘positioning’. It can be confusing, which makes it kind of useless.

So, let’s redefine ‘positioning’ as ‘confidence’.
