The worst investment I ever made in my social media business is probably the reason I became the strategist I am today.
At the time, though? I genuinely wondered if I’d wasted my money.
I invested expecting things to change.
More growth.
More enquiries.
Better results.
And when none of that happened overnight, I remember thinking…
What exactly did I pay for?
But looking back, that investment gave me something far more valuable than an instant spike in followers or a few quick enquiries.
It completely changed the way I looked at marketing.
It taught me that posting consistently isn’t a strategy.
That good-looking content means very little if you don’t understand WHY you’re creating it.
And that my job wasn’t simply to keep my clients’ social media accounts active.
My job was to understand their business, their customers and their goals — and build a strategy capable of connecting all three.
It made me stop guessing.
It gave me the confidence to lead my clients rather than simply “post for them.”
And it raised the standard of what I believed social media management should actually deliver.
That shift eventually became the foundation of the Prestige Strategy System™:
Attract → Build Trust → Convert.
Now, when we create content, there’s a reason behind it.
We know who it needs to reach.
We know what we want them to think or feel.
We know where it sits within the wider strategy.
And we know what we want them to do next.
We’re not throwing 50 ideas at the wall and hoping one of them works.
And my clients aren’t left wondering, “What on earth do I post today?”
There’s direction behind it.
So was it really the worst investment I ever made?
Financially, at the time, it certainly felt like it.
But in terms of what it forced me to learn?
It might have been one of the most important.
Because it was the point where I stopped thinking like a content creator…
and started thinking like a strategist. ♟️
