Should professional photographers use iPhones as part of their kit? đŸ“±

I’ve written a lot about this on my blog, but it’s always a bit of a debate. Personally, I don’t think the gear matters as much as people think.
What actually makes a photo good is the composition, the light, the colors, and the story you’re trying to tell.

If you’re a purist, you might think street art like Banksy isn’t real art, or that paintings can only happen on canvas. But to me, art is just about someone trying to get a message out. Like I said about opera the other day, it should be inclusive.

Don’t get me wrong, there are technical differences. Shooting RAW on a DSLR gives you way more possibilities when it comes to editing (and I’ve actually made another video about that technical side of things).
But at the end of the day, if it’s a good picture that tells a story, it counts.

What do you think? Does the gear make the photographer, or is it just a tool?

A bit of a detour from web design today, but a conversation at Kickback Coffee got me thinking.
Is opera actually for the masses? 🎭

Historically, absolutely. Verdi was a boss, and the tunes we shout at football matches started on the opera stage. Mozart even insisted on writing in German so the everyday person could actually understand the story. It was radical and inclusive.

But somewhere along the way, we started holding onto the "traditional" ways so tightly that we lost the actual message. And if it doesn't evolve, it's going to die a silent death.

It’s the same with branding and websites, really. If you’re refusing to adapt to how your audience communicates today because "that’s how we’ve always done it," you’re getting left behind.

What do you think? Has opera lost its way, or are we just not listening?

I ♡ Manchester.

It's been nearly 13 years now since I moved here. What was only supposed to be a one-year masters at quickly turned into a two-year masters, which turned into a postgraduate diploma, which turned into me finding the love of my life, building a family, and staying here forever. đŸ„°

There's lots of things I love about this city. I love the inclusion, I love the art, the buildings, and the general vibe of the people.
But what I love the most is how it's nestled in between the Peaks, the Lakes, Wales, and the sea. The freedom and peace of green space is never far off.

What do you like the most about Manchester?

To all the work-from-home mums out there today... I see you. đŸ€

This morning started with a pretty stressful school drop-off, and it got me thinking about the constant balancing act. When you work from home, there is a perpetual to-do list ticking away in the background.

The laundry, the kitchen, the business... it honestly feels like you can’t win. If the house is clean, you’re missing work time. If you’re working, the house falls apart.

But if you’ve been putting off getting professional brand photos done because you’re stressed about the state of your house, please don’t worry.

When I come to your house for a shoot, I don’t care about the clutter. We only need one small, tidy corner with some good light to make magic happen. That’s it.

Zero judgment from me, ever.

Did you know your phone shows you random photos when you charge it in landscape? Didn’t even know I had this one!

I took this on my birthday on a walk in in 2018! It’s the Roaches in Leek ♄ it’s got a real “Oh what are men compared to rocks and mountains” vibe 😅

Why am I charging for things you can’t actually see? 🧐

Almost fell into a bush trying to explain this on the dog walk this morning, but here we are 😅

Having a website isn’t really a “set it and forget it” thing. It’s more like digital gardening. You’ve got to water it, make sure it’s getting light and pull the weeds.

A lot of that “weeding” is the SEO work that happens in the background. You can’t see it, but it’s what keeps the site healthy and actually gets you found.

If you want to check if your own SEO is set up properly, I’ve put a free Squarespace checklist in my shop. Link is in the bio if you want to grab it.

I wasn’t sure if I should post this, but remembering our loved ones with stories is, I think, the best way to keep the memory alive and to share the grief with any others that feel it too.
Even after nearly 11 years the feeling of loss can still be incredibly overwhelming, especially when I think about how my kids are missing out on their amazing oma.
But I guess sharing stories like this makes it bearable and makes me feel that by sharing this I might make someone somewhere feel less alone.

No SEO = no bookings!

I know seo sounds super techy and complicated, but I promise with these simple “rules” you’ll be ready to go!

By simply naming pages and images with the right keywords (like ‘Vocal Coach Manchester’ or ‘Singing Teacher Altrincham’), you are ensuring that when a parent or student searches for help, you’ll be the first name they see

If this is all super overwhelming you can head to my shop and download the (where everything is setup for you already) and all you have to do is slot in your own text and images and you’re ready to go.

The Muscician’s Mini-Site will go live this Friday and you’ll be able to use the code [MusicMini7] during the first week to get an extra £50 off on the template (on top of the 20% off on the annual squarespace and acuity scheduling subscriptions among other benefits)

Most frustrating thing about private teaching is the scheduling admin

As a musician, your time is your most valuable asset. If you’re spending 2 hours a week managing your diary, that’s time you aren’t practicing or teaching.

I’ve integrated Squarespace Scheduling into my one-page site to automate the boring stuff:
✅ Live availability (synced to your personal calendar)
✅ Automatic confirmation emails
✅ Upfront payments (no more awkward texts!)
✅ Buffer times to give you a break
✅ Integration with Squarespace

It makes you look like a total pro and gives you your evenings back.

Follow along for the final reel: SEO (The ‘Get Found’ Secret) + the reveal of my Musician’s Mini-Site discount code! 🎁
