When I was 16, I landed a much-coveted job in a newly opened supermarket, my first proper job.

I loved it. Especially working the ambient aisle (only ex-supermarket people will understand 😆).

I remember one of the first weeks after opening, working hard to keep the aisle looking spot on with a colleague. I proudly said to the boss,
“Doesn’t it look well?!”

His reply?
“Clara, self-praise is no praise.”

Cheeky...🙊

Fast forward 20 years, and here I am constantly telling my clients to ask for feedback, get testimonials, share reviews and I hardly ever ask for them myself! (Said comment ringing in my ears!)

But the truth is… if you don’t talk about your work, who will?

So yes, this is me blowing my own trumpet a little 🎺 and yes, that's an AI photo!😂
(shamelessly encouraged by a Google review link that i shared out.😆)

And I’m proud of it.

If you’ve ever thought about asking for a review, take this as your sign.

People are often more than happy to share… they just need asked.

I love mentoring businesses...because every once in a while you come across a real gem.

👉Toni is that gem. We had the best craic and I can't wait for her to open her salt room business later in the year. And as always, I am forever grateful when such clients take the time to leave me lovely reviews like this!🫶

Unpopular opinion 🙈

Businesses using AI artwork on their social media is making the business look cheap.

I totally get why people use it...it’s quick and easy.

But when every post has that same glossy (some even Christmas like😆) cartoon-style vibe, it stops reflecting the real business behind the page.

Social media works best when it’s real.

Your shop isn’t a cartoon.
Your café isn’t a cartoon.
Your service isn’t a cartoon.

Don't get me wrong, AI can be a REALLY useful tool (I use it a lot!) but if your whole feed looks like a cartoon, your brand starts to lose its personality.

Sorry, not sorry.😏

I had an insightful morning at the Supportive Employment Seminar hosted by First Steps Women’s Centre in Dungannon.

One thing that really stood out to me is that so many women want meaningful work that fits around caring for their children.

64% of women surveyed said flexible start and finish times would help them return to employment. Yet 74% of employers are struggling to fill vacancies.

There’s a clear disconnect.

Ten years ago, after my second baby, I made the decision to leave my full-time job. It simply wasn’t possible to leave two small children with a childminder at 7am in Omagh to start work at 8am in Cookstown.

So I went self-employed.

I probably worked more hours but I had flexibility. And that made all the difference.

For me, this reinforced that supportive employment isn’t “nice to have”, it’s an economic necessity.

When we remove barriers, women don’t step back, they step forward.

Facebook turned 22 last week...what a way to feel mega old. It got me thinking of all the cringey stuff we used to do on Facebook....who remembers:

1) Connecting your digital camera to your laptop the morning after the night before and spending hours uploading questionable 'albums' for the whole world to see.😱

2) Poking people...what even was that?!

3) Checking in EVERYWHERE! If this was still a thing, my mum would be definitely be using it.🤣

4) Posting updates in third person...my memories remind me just how cringey this was. Why was this a thing?

5) Adding 'feelings' to your post. Just in case someone needed to know you were 'feeling meh'. 🤣

So what did you use Facebook for back in the early days?

👀 CAPCUT UPDATE⚡️

There’s been a major update to their Terms & Conditions and if you’re using it to create content for your business (or for clients), then you might want to pause before you click “accept”. 😬

Basically, by agreeing to the new terms, you could be giving CapCut permission to use your videos (including your voice recordings!), for their own purposes. Including commercially. 😱

So if you’re big on ownership, privacy or client trust…maybe it’s time to have a rethink.
