We’re proud to be delivering the UK Youth Summer Jobs Programme providing paid work experience to young people aged 16-20 who are at risk of youth violence.

The programme aims to combat the barriers that many young people face in gaining employment by fostering career development, personal growth and positive engagement.

With a preparation week followed by five weeks of paid work experience, each participant is supported by one of our dedicated Programme Leads throughout.

At Power2, we design our programmes around the needs of the children and young people we support.

Each year, 28% of the young people on our programmes have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), as well as living in poverty, experiencing low mental wellbeing and disengagement from education.

Jack, aged 14, is a young person with SEND who recently took part in Power2 Thrive.

Before the programme, Jack found aspects of the standard classroom environment challenging making it hard for him to communicate and engage in learning.

Our team designed the Power2 Thrive sessions to include movement, art, role-play and regular breaks from sitting so that they were accommodating for Jack and his peers.

Jack particularly benefited from the role play sessions because he was able to practise communication techniques such as reading tone, body language and social cues.

The nursery sessions really brought out Jack’s strengths too. He spoke calmly to his mentee, guided him through activities and they formed a strong bond.

Jack now has improved confidence and communication skills which have helped him become happier in his life.

He said “[The programme] helped me to get better at talking to people in general and it’s helped me with smooth communication.”
