Face to face chats just hit different. Amazing, productive morning with William Hackett. Lots of ideas. Lots of energy.

Quick shot from the client of our Art Director talking through her portrait work and her new book. Thanks Paul! 😎🙌✨✨

Victor Vasarely shaped the world of Op Art with clean geometry, strong colour contrast and pattern that plays with how we see. His move from graphic design in Paris into full abstraction influenced artists and designers for decades.

In 1972, Renault brought Vasarely and his son Yvaral in to rethink its diamond mark. The brand needed a new direction fast after legal issues with an earlier prototype. Their solution was a three dimensional diamond built from interlocking black and white forms. It suggested movement, clarity and modern engineering. It launched on the Renault 5 and stayed in place for twenty years, guiding every version that came after.

At YST we look at work like this because it shows how a simple idea, backed by strong thinking, can shape a whole brand world.

Here’s a great example from , who always dig up solid design history.

This is what happens when we go into creative mode… Our imagination runs wild 🤓✍️ clocks, clouds, colour, and ideas that float free. 🔥🔥 That’s exactly how we build campaigns that feel alive.

We’re YST, based in the Custard Factory, Digbeth. Pop over for a coffee or beer sometime ☕️🍻 let’s talk brand, campaign, and killer creative direction. 😎🤌✨✨

The Nike “Swoosh,” designed in 1971 by Carolyn Davidson, a Portland State student, draws from the Greek goddess Nike’s wing, symbolizing speed and victory. Phil Knight, Nike’s co-founder, initially lukewarm, said it would “grow on him.” The logo’s minimalist curve, once criticized as a mere checkmark, became iconic for its adaptability, stretching across products without needing the brand name. Davidson later received a diamond Swoosh ring and stock, now worth millions. The Swoosh’s standalone recognition is rare in branding, evolving from a student project to a global symbol of athleticism and culture in a single, versatile stroke.

Carolyn received $35 for the logo and Nike also gifted her 500 shares of stock, later worth over $1 million due to appreciation, a diamond ring with the Swoosh, and Nike products, recognizing her significant contribution to the brand’s iconic identity.

Creativity, tinned.

Sometimes the best ideas come when you crack open something ordinary. A tin of beans. A memory. A scribble on a napkin.

We always believe that creativity doesn’t need grand gestures or big budgets - it needs curiosity, honesty, and a bit of nerve. 💪😎✨✨

And yes, we’re a bit geeky about it too. We love developing ideas in Cinema 4D as much as sketching them out by hand.

Here’s to finding inspiration in the everyday. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥💥💥💥💥

We’re so proud to have created the brand identity for the very first Birmingham Jewellery Biennial 💍

The project came at a really special time - just as Birmingham was named a World Craft City by the World Crafts Council. A huge recognition of the Jewellery Quarter’s rich history and the thousands of makers who keep its creative spirit alive today.

As a Birmingham studio, this one felt close to home.

Craft is in our roots - and we wanted the identity to reflect that: a balance of heritage and innovation, precision and play.

Grateful to the Jewellery Quarter Development Trust and the brilliant team behind the Biennial for inviting us to be part of it.

Morning strolls through Brum hit different these days...

Damian’s just moved to the Jewellery Quarter and now gets to wander through one of Birmingham’s most beautiful squares on the way to the Custard Factory - not a bad commute!!

There’s something about walking through this city - the history, the buzz, the hidden corners - that really gets you in the right headspace for a creative day at You Say Tomato.

International Women’s Day – A Shoutout to Our Resident Creative Whirlwind, Emma Woolley!

Today, on International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the wildly creative, endlessly inspiring, and completely one-of-a-kind Emma Woolley—YST’s Art Director, painter, and full-time dreamer of brilliant, off-the-wall ideas.

Emma doesn’t just do creativity—she is creativity. With her ever-changing funky hair, bohemian spirit, and a mind that drifts between design, colour, and the mysteries of the universe, she brings a kind of magic that you just can’t pin down (nor would you want to). One moment she’s crafting a masterpiece, the next she’s lost in a thought so deep you’d swear she’s talking to another dimension.

She makes our world at YST brighter, bolder, and a lot more fun. Here’s to Emma, and to all the incredible women making waves in the creative industry today!
