Happy Friday, everyone!
I have to confess, building Dekkle 2.0 has turned into a far more epic saga than I initially planned. We’re coming up on a year in the making, but I am so close to the finish line now I can literally feel it on my ink-stained fingertips.
Just a week ago, I was vibrating the hardcore down (which sounds infinitely more avant-garde than it actually is), and this whole week I’ve been hand-mixing cement and laying over 500 square tiles. I suppose it makes sense why rely on modern convenience for a renovation when I run a studio full of 19th-century printing presses? We clearly thrive on the romantic, agonizingly slow process of doing things the absolute hardest way possible. In fact, I’ve hand-mixed so much cement this week I’m half-tempted to ink up the patio and run it through the press just to see what kind of edition it pulls.
But it’s all for you. I wanted to build a proper space where you can just sit back and have a coffee or a much-needed glass of wine while your plates are etching or your stones are drying. The beauty of traditional printmaking is that the slowness forces you to drink copious amounts of tea, explore your inner thoughts, and rework your art in ways the modern rush usually ruins.
I can't wait to welcome you all to the opening very shortly. Keep your eyes peeled, and have a brilliant weekend! 🥂☕️🗞️
