Following up on my previous review of the Ottocast P3 CarPlay device, I’ve found its performance increasingly unreliable—especially when it comes to simply powering on, which has been incredibly frustrating. Unfortunately, support from Ottocast hasn’t been very helpful either.

That said, my attention has recently shifted to the BRUXE R6 AI Box. I’m genuinely excited to review this new device and will be testing it with both my Mercedes EQC (using plug-in Apple CarPlay) and my trusty old Mercedes R350 CDI.

Will it work seamlessly across both vehicles? How will it perform in real-world use? Stay tuned to find out!

🚗 From Visa to Victory: My Car Journey to Mercedes Mastery

Every car has a story. And mine? It’s a journey through decades of driving, some duds, some delights, and a final destination I’m proud to call home: the world of Mercedes-Benz.

The Early Days: Small Engines, Big Memories 🔧

My very first car was a Citroën Visa – quirky, boxy and full of character. From there, I jumped into a 1.0 Nissan Micra. Not exactly thrilling, but it did the job.

Next came a bit of an upgrade: my dad’s 3-year-old Audi 80. A solid motor… until an unfortunate altercation with a Saab 9000 wrote it off 😬. That saw me back in a Micra – trusty as ever.

Then came a few more stepping stones: a Toyota Corolla 🚙, a Nissan Primera, and a Renault Laguna – dependable, if a bit forgettable.

Enter the Three-Pointed Star ⭐

That all changed when I entered Mercedes territory. My first was a 1994 C180 Classic saloon – smooth, solid, and a true taste of quality. From there, I was hooked.

What followed was a string of Mercs:
• C200 Kompressor Saloon
• C200 Kompressor Estate
• E200 Saloon
• Another C200 Kompressor Avantgarde
• R350 4MATIC – a real game changer for me
• SL350 with AMG bodyline – sporty elegance 😎
• And my current pride and joy: the EQC

The BMW Interlude 🚘

There was a brief departure into BMW territory: two 520 saloons and a 420 xDrive coupe. All good cars, no doubt – but they never had that same soul.

When my son arrived, practicality called, and I got a 520 estate. But let’s be honest – it was incredibly boring to drive. No sparkle. No personality. It went back in under a year.

Return of the R – and the EV Leap ⚡

I returned to a trusted companion: another R350. Ours now serves as the family and workhorse vehicle – still going strong with over 110,000 miles on the clock, running like a dream 🛠️.

As EVs gained popularity, I explored options. The Mercedes EQC was on my radar, but a bit out of budget at the time. So, I took a punt on the Jaguar I-Pace. Stunning to look at, great drive – but the reliability? 😩 Not up to scratch. That lasted less than six months.

By the time I gave up on the Jag, prices had shifted – and the EQC became a reality. I bought one, and I haven’t looked back since. 😊

Life with the EQC 💙

It’s not perfect, but it’s brilliant. The pros far outweigh the cons – but let’s start with the minor frustrations:
• ❌ No wireless Apple CarPlay (a future blog will dive deeper into that)
• ❌ No frunk – it would be so handy for charging cables, especially with a dog or luggage in the boot
• 🔋 Range: I’m lucky to get 200 miles, even when driving frustratingly sensibly
• 👎 Rapid tyre wear
• 🛑 The low ride height means speed bumps near my son’s school are a scraping nightmare

But you know what? Despite all of that, the EQC is the most fun, reliable, and safe car I’ve ever driven.

Two Mercs, One Happy Driver 😁

The R350 is our loyal workhorse. The EQC is our sleek, silent cruiser. Between them, they cover every base.

After 20+ years of driving everything from a Visa to a V6, I’ve found my home in Mercedes. It’s been a journey – and I’m excited to keep sharing more of it with you here on The Merc Man.

🚗💬 Jaguar I-Pace vs Mercedes EQC – My Real-Life EV Comparison ⚡🇬🇧

Hi everyone – The Merc-Man here! 👋 After spending time behind the wheel of both the Jaguar I-Pace and now the Mercedes EQC, I thought it was about time I gave you the lowdown on how they stack up. Both are premium electric SUVs, but let’s just say one has definitely stolen my EV heart… 💙

🔋 Charging & Reliability

Let’s start with a biggie – charging reliability.
The Jaguar I-Pace gave me constant headaches. The charging was intermittent at best – sometimes it’d work, sometimes it wouldn’t. Not what you want when you’re relying on public chargers and need to be somewhere! 😤

With the Mercedes EQC? It’s been a dream. Smooth, consistent charging every time – whether I’m at home or on the go. Plug in and walk away, confident it’ll be ready when I need it. ✅

📺 Infotainment & Software

Now this really pushed me over the edge with the I-Pace. The media centre would freeze, crash, or just randomly turn off altogether 😬 – and yes, this happened mid-journey, often when I really needed the sat-nav.

The EQC’s MBUX system, on the other hand, is super slick, responsive, and genuinely helpful. Voice commands actually work, the navigation is crystal clear, and the whole system feels premium and reliable. 👌🎶

🧳 Storage – The Frunk Factor

Credit where it’s due – the I-Pace does win here. The little front boot (frunk) is a really handy spot to store your charging cables, keeping the rear boot free for luggage. It’s neat and practical. 🧰

Sadly, the EQC doesn’t have a frunk, thanks to the more traditional Mercedes layout with plenty of mechanical components up front. But to be fair, the main boot is generous, and there’s plenty of interior storage – so it’s not a dealbreaker for me.

🛋️ Interior Comfort & Quality

Here’s where the EQC shines. The cabin is pure class – smooth lines, ambient lighting, plush materials, and everything just feels solid. It’s refined, quiet, and really well put together. 🛋️💡

The I-Pace interior was nice, don’t get me wrong – but it lacked that extra polish. Some of the touch controls felt a bit gimmicky and the finish didn’t quite match the premium badge.

🛣️ Drive & Comfort

The I-Pace has a slightly sportier edge in how it handles, and it’s quick. But the EQC offers a more serene, composed ride – perfect for long journeys. It soaks up the bumps, glides along motorways, and keeps you in comfort the whole way. 🚘💨

⚖️ Verdict

If you want a slightly sportier EV with a few clever design touches, the I-Pace will tick some boxes. But for me – after real issues with reliability and software – it just didn’t deliver the peace of mind I was hoping for.

The Mercedes EQC? It’s everything I wanted in an EV – reliable, luxurious, smooth, and smart. And after over 20 years with the Mercedes brand, I can confidently say: they’ve nailed it with the EQC. 💙⚡

🚗✨ Welcome to The Merc-Man! ✨🚗

After over 20 years behind the wheel of various Mercedes—from trusty C and E Classes to a stunning SL—I’ve finally decided to share my journey with fellow enthusiasts and curious minds alike.

Currently, I’m the proud owner of a 2012 R-Class (my faithful workhorse 💪) and a 2021 EQC ⚡—my return to form after a bumpy EV detour with a Jaguar I-Pace. While the I-Pace was full of promise, it came with more headaches than highlights (think charging issues and a sat-nav that vanished mid-journey! 😤). Thankfully, Mercedes restored my faith in electric with the EQC. It’s smooth, reliable, and everything an EV should be… and then some. 🙌

Join me as I share my experiences, insights, and stories—from road trips to reviews, EV pros and cons, and life with two very different Mercs. Whether you’re a fellow Mercedes fan, an EV explorer, or just love good car chat, you’re in the right place.

It deeply saddens me to share that The Jag Man might be putting away his driving gloves and parting ways with Jaguar. Following persistent issues with the IPACE's charging system, our vehicle has been with the dealership for almost 5 weeks, awaiting parts.

Upon speaking to , they informed us of a significant number of their vehicles being off the road, attributed to a parts shortage. Interactions with several owners have also highlighted similar issues, either related to parts or identical charging problems. Alarmingly, we've come to know that production of the IPACE will cease in 2025.

Given the gravity of our situation - our car was under 6 months old when we first encountered the issue, and after an unsuccessful repair attempt led to a breakdown - we've sought legal counsel. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, we're advised that we're entitled to a full refund along with compensation of 1% of the purchase price for every week our vehicle has been rendered unusable.

While our journey with Jaguar has been memorable, our faith in the car and the brand has unfortunately diminished.

I am very sorry for the lack of posts for a while however we have had alotbof problems with our Jaguar IPACE since we bought it.

Since purchasing a used 2019 IPACE from a Jaguar dealership in Basingstoke, Hampshire this last March, we've faced numerous issues. Despite its 2-year warranty, the car's troubles began in the very first week with a leaking windscreen that took a week to repair. We soon noticed the IPACE would occasionally cut out during public charging and even trip our home charger's fuse. Even after returning it to the dealership for diagnostics using the old battery, we were met with more disappointment. They claimed it was "all fixed", only for it to break down on our way home, leaving us stranded with just 3 miles of charge remaining. Additionally, the engine warning light persisted until the battery drained completely. Following a 5-hour ordeal with Jag assist and the AA, our troubles continued when the car tripped our home charger at 75% charge.

The dealership has had our car for 4 weeks, citing a delay due to a "huge parts shortage." Meanwhile, we've been provided with loaner vehicles like the EPACE, FPACE, and the brand new 2024 IPACE, none of which had charging issues like ours. Now, they're offering us an enterprise hire car since they don't have any loaners left. With an ongoing parts shortage and no solution in sight, we're considering requesting a refund or a swap with another used IPACE they have available.

Since March, our car has spent over 6 weeks at the dealership for various issues. Understandably, we're extremely frustrated and disappointed with this experience.

This all said, we have been pleased with the service give by Ian Sharp, of whom is a consultant, working for the dealership, and we are aware that the delays are not of his or the dealership’s making, nor of Jaguar, however we are now coming to the end of our tether, and just need it resolved one way or another.

Hopefully you can now see why we have not been active on social media.
