We are delighted to be supporting an amazing event - Derbyshire Unstrictly Dancing Fundraiser on the 16th of May at the University of Derby.

16 local celebrities will be dancing as part of an incredible evening of glitz, dancing and fun. There will be show dances, a live band and many surprises.

The event is raising money for The Lewis Sewell Memorial Trust and Umbrella Derby and Derbyshire.

What does Mahatma Gandhi and JK Rowling have in common?

Public speaking is considered one of the most common fears globally. And even surpassing the fear of death in some surveys. Can you believe it? I can.

Do you struggle a bit with public speaking?

Well, if you don't enjoy it, you are in good company. Many famous people have had or have a strong dislike of public speaking including- Mahatma Gandhi: Despite being an influential leader and orator, Gandhi frequently was very anxious when speaking in public. He overcame his fear through practice and dedication to his cause.
And J.K. Rowling: The author of the Harry Potter series has spoken openly about her struggles with public speaking anxiety. Despite her success as a writer, she has admitted to feeling nervous and uncomfortable when addressing crowds.

I was delighted to start my latest 'Transformational Public Speaking Programme' last Friday at Reach Events, with such a great group of people. I have such a passion for helping people develop their speaking skills. I get such a buzz from seeing someone progress from being fearful or uncertain about public speaking to becoming confident and skilled.

In the programme, we start with specifically looking at why individuals have such a fear. Key reasons that came out in the session were, amongst other things: overthinking, perfectionism, being judged, embarrassment, not liking the attention and fear of being seen that you are afraid. These are all natural and through the sessions these always diminish....to the point of the delegates enjoying speaking to audiences. Do you feel any of these hold you back?

I am so pleased to have have helped a range of people including: senior executives delivering to audiences of 1000s, and chief police officers speaking in volatile circumstances to the international media and helping business owners grow their business through improved speaking.

An essential element of the training is about bringing out your authentic self in this safe environment.

The next programme begins on June the 7th. There will only be six delegates , as it's so important that each person gets the needed support. We're supporting the High Sheriff of Derbyshire's Fundraising Unstrictly Dancing Spectacular.

It's going to be an amazing event on the 15th of March at Derbyshire County Cricket Club!

It promises to be a captivating show, featuring a dazzling showcase of talent from local business, charity and community influencers with professional partners, West End stars and an amazing local band, all coming together for worthy causes.

"My accent is too strong"
"I don't have a story"
"I could never talk on stage"
"I can talk to a small group of people, but I could never speak to a large audience"

These comments have been said to me when I have mentioned public speaking. And it is amazing how many people are fearful of it.

So, here's the truth, all the comments above are false! Do you agree?

It is your authenticity, your quirks, your uniqueness, your flaws, your views that make you, you! And all this gives you the potential of being an outstanding speaker. As we are not born brilliant speakers.

Overall, overcoming fear and lack of self-confidence often requires a combination of practice, preparation, confidence-building techniques, and potentially coaching in public speaking skills.

My next 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞'𝐬 first day is on the 8th of March. This is then followed by two further half days, which are weeks apart. And all this is complimented with online support/exercises. And we have just one place left!

I do not believe that you can learn everything you need to know in a one-day session, or even in a two-day course. Public speaking coaching requires a deep dive into various aspects and nuances. So as the programme is over a number of months, which allows you time to absorb the information and importantly, time to practice and receive feedback.

And different people learn at different paces and have different backgrounds and prior knowledge. The programme accommodates these differences and everyone's learning styles are accommodated.

I guarantee the programme will be transformational and enjoyable!

I'm delighted to say the next speaker for the Derbyshire Business Network event, on the 11th of May is Theresa Peltier, the High Sheriff of Derbyshire.

Theresa will be discussing 'Unity is Community' as this is her theme for the year.

Theresa will give an insight into her life and her personal experience of adoption, she will discuss her varied work and also the role of the High Sheriff, which dates back to Saxon Times.

She is currently a vice-chair for both Adoption East Midlands and Derby City Fostering. Theresa hopes to encourage others to consider fostering and adoption. She says “Whilst there are no guarantees, I believe love, nurture, boundaries, and structure provides the best possible environment to support a child to be the best they can be."

During the year as High Sheriff, she will be supporting many causes including the Deaf community, the women in Foston Hall Prison and she will be supporting her partner George, and paying tribute to those from the Windrush generation, as this is the 75th anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush arriving at Tilbury Docks.

And, as always we will be having incredible speed networking, where many a colleague/client has been found.
