I’d like to say a big thank you to all the clients I’ve worked with in my two-and-a-half years freelancing.

I’ve met lots of new people and enjoyed cutting my teeth in lots of new industries.

However, Paul Brown Media is now on permanent hiatus following my decision to move back into an exciting new permanent role as Assistant Head of Editorial at Manchester City.

Best wishes. Paul Brown

Producing the right content for the right channel is so vital in social media.

Here’s a great infographic that explains the nuances really succinctly.

Another 👏 to the Wolves media team for a clever piece of trending social content.

Wordle is everywhere and completely unavoidable - have you seen those yellow, green and grey boxes? It’s a fun, simple, daily word game that you can find online.

And Wolves have used it to hail their weekend goal hero, Ruben Neves, who scored the winner in a 2-1 victory over Brentford.

Using the ‘crossword-style’ formula, they’ve spelt out ‘Ruben Neves bangs world class goals’.

I love it when a brand jumps on a trend in a relevant and effortless way - and that’s exactly what’s been done here.

Wolves continue to impress with their output, which regularly ticks so many boxes.

I always love when social media is used for good - and that’s exactly what’s happened in the rugby world this week.

Dad Mark Pugsley tweeted that he’d had to delete a post and picture of his young son playing rugby because someone had said he was “too big”.

He went on to explain how his son had low confidence but was working really hard to “get fitter”.

What followed was a beautiful outpouring of support from big names in the sport - including Nigel Owens, England Rugby, Liam Williams, Wasps Rugby, Louis Rees-Zammit and Jonathan Davies.

Fantastic to see!

It’s important to dream - as Twitter are showcasing in their inspirational new out-of-home billboard ad campaign.

Twitter have rolled out the “manifestation” project - “if you can dream it, tweet it” - in eight locations across the United States and Canada.

Tweets about manifestation are at an all-time high, with 100% year-over-year growth and a total of 59m posts over the past three years.

Twitter want to inspire people by showcasing old tweets from celebrities - athletes and entertainers - who turned their dreams into reality.

They include singers Demi Lovato and Megan Thee Stallion, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace and X Factor winner Niall Horan.

The tweets that were posted before they hit stardom are superimposed on images featuring the celebrities “who manifested their dreams.”

I really love this because it’s got positive energy - and I’m a firm believer in manifestation.

So much content, especially on Twitter with trolling, feeds into negativity so this is a very welcome project.

Would love to see some more UK-based sport and music heroes showcased over here, too.

I absolutely love this visual by NFL on CBS to promote the NFL Play-Offs - as it takes inspiration from the famous 1990s WWE Royal Rumble posters.

The Royal Rumble was one of the franchise’s four pay-per-view main events at that time - a classic Battle Royal match in which 30 wrestlers aim at eliminating their competitors by throwing them over the top rope and on to the floor.

The specific ‘street fight’ promos, used in 1991 and 1992, had the theme of ‘Every Man for Himself’.

Here we have ‘Every Team for Themselves’ as CBS brilliantly look ahead to the Play-Offs which start later this week.

Instead of ‘Royal Rumble’, they call it ‘Super Scramble’.

In the NFC and AFC, the four division winners and the three wild card teams have qualified.
Each team is represented in this graphic with Tom Brady replacing Ric Flair, Derek Carr as The Undertaker and Patrick Mahomes as Hulk Hogan.

I love the creativity, the use of nostalgia - and it’s been hugely well received by American Football fans across social media.

💬 Inside PB Media 5: My 5 resolutions for 2022 💬

It was renowned transformational leader Marisa Peer who said “when you have a goal in your head, it’s just a fantasy, it’s a daydream”.

She argued that it’s only by putting down on paper what you hope to achieve that you “make it real”.

So, for the first time ever, I’m doing just that – and sharing my ambitions for 2022 with you.

It was a social media masterclass from fitness apparel giants, Gymshark this week.

Like most merchandising businesses, Gymshark are gearing up for Black Friday, with up to 70% off their goods.

But rather than promoting their sale, they decided to have some fun instead.

They changed their name to ‘Jim Shark’ on Twitter and pranked a host of celebrities into wishing them a happy birthday, including Carole Baskin from Tiger King, actor Anthony Anderson, soul singer Dionne Warwick, Brian Baumgartner from the US Office and Tom Felton from Harry Potter.

As they posted: “Pranking celebs to wish us happy birthday when it’s not our birthday > promoting our up to 70% off Black Friday sale”.

Their antics helped ‘Jim Shark’ trend on Twitter, which in turn, of course, will have upped interest and sales in their Black Friday offers.

It was a brilliantly innovative and disruptive strategy, which showed their ‘thinking outside the box’ approach.

Excellent job. 👍

I always used to love updates from the WWF during their 'Prime Time' show in the 1990s.

In the era of Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and Macho Man, the show, featuring Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan, always looked like a big production.

This rarely-seen, behind-the-scenes picture shows that looks can be deceiving - and also demonstrates what can be done with a little bit of invention and ingenuity.

Team Europe are masters of meticulous planning in the Ryder Cup – and this year is no exception with some brilliant PR ex*****on.

Meticulous. Modern. Inspirational. Those were the three words used to describe 2014 captain Paul McGinley, who also played on three winning Ryder Cup teams and holed the winning putt in 2002.

Since getting the job 18 months previous he travelled the world, meeting with players, former captains and successful sports coaches like Alex Ferguson to build the right structure and atmosphere.

Ferguson, the former Manchester United manager, was brought in to deliver a pep talk to the players. And McGinley used a series of motivational videos, posters and other messages to instill confidence in the team.

And this detailed and careful approach has already come through in Padraig Harrington, the skipper this weekend in Whistling Straits.

Harrington, who played in McGinley’s team in 2014, is clearly following in his footsteps after a masterstroke in the practice rounds.

Europe turned on the charm offensive for the US crowd, which is renowned for being raucous and hostile, by donning foam cheeseheads made famous by local NFL franchise Green Bay Packers.

The gesture drew a delighted reaction from the packed grandstand and was the idea of Harrington – and conceived 18 months ago.

Throwing the headgear into the crowd and wearing practice outfits mirroring the colours of the Packers also went down a storm.

This was a brilliant ex*****on in order to try and get the crowds onside. It’s not about switching allegiance from USA to Europe. If you’re American, you’re cheering for Team USA.

However, if actions like this help turn the volume down, Team Europe will have an advantage – and it’s these small margins that make all the difference.

I spoke this morning about the quality creative output of ‘Ryder Cup Europe’ on social media.

And they’ve not let me down with this piece tonight across their channels.

The short-form video is just over three minutes long and is called ‘Out of Context Ryder Cup’.

It features the players in bizarre yet brilliant scenarios that fit perfectly with past audio commentary clips describing them in action on the golf course.

The segment on John Rahm alone is worth watching it for.

It’s superbly concepted, storyboarded and animated while the tone exemplifies the playful and relaxed character of the team.

Well done to everyone involved.
