Some good news to start the week.

Our client HCRG Care Group's Early Intervention Sleep Campaign has been shortlisted for a Nursing Times Award.

The Reeves PR team worked alongside them on the campaign, writing, directing and editing a series of videos designed to help families access practical advice and support around children's sleep.

It was a pleasure to work alongside their specialists and I think our team learnt a lot from the experience.

It's great to see the campaign recognised, and we're looking forward to the awards on 29 October. I think we're almost as excited as they are.

Good luck to everyone involved.

BBC Radio 4's Any Questions? is coming from the Staffordshire village of Hixon this evening.

We’ve been visiting Hixon regularly for around 25 years through our work with plumbing equipment manufacturer Intatec, which is based there.

The BBC’s visit has nothing to do with Reeves or Inta, and we don’t imagine many questions about heating will crop up tonight. But it is still rather nice to think that, on a turbulent day for Westminster, the national conversation will be coming from a village we know well.

We’ll be listening.

Things we’re loving on social media at the moment!

– Regular use of image descriptions and alt text

– Letting people speak for themselves rather than being over-framed

– Showing progress and delivery, not just announcements

– Content that gives context instead of chasing clicks

– Simpler visuals that support the message rather than compete with it

A lot of this aligns with what we’ve learned through our work with Focus Birmingham, particularly around accessibility and clarity. It’s encouraging to see these things becoming more common across socials, whatever the sector.

Image description:
A tablet in a bright red protective case is mounted at eye level and displays an assistive communication app. The screen shows a grid of colourful icons and symbols labelled with words such as ‘Speak’, ‘Sentence starters’, ‘Feelings’, ‘Questions’, ‘Meals’, ‘Drinks’, ‘People’ and ‘About me’, designed to help users communicate by selecting words and phrases. A small camera or sensor is attached to the top of the device. In the foreground, slightly out of focus, is the side profile of a person facing the screen, suggesting they are using or engaging with the communication aid in an indoor setting with soft natural light.

Venison in schools was back in the spotlight this morning on BBC Radio 4’s Farming Today, with discussion around a project in Ashdown Forest encouraging greater use of sustainably managed deer meat.

Back in 2024, our client Maple Hayes Hall School was already part of that national conversation – featuring on Farming Today and on BBC News for serving venison from its own herd as part of its approach to sustainability and food education.

Reducing food miles. Using estate resources responsibly. Helping pupils understand where their food comes from in a practical, grounded way.

We’ve even enjoyed the venison ourselves on a visit and can confirm it’s as good as the story behind it.

Today is but for anyone affected by it, every day is cancer day.

You'll know that Clive shares his prostate journey, but today we'll have a look at the work of our friends at Help Harry Help Others, the cancer charity and also the personal story of Stuart Gizzi, the plumbing equipment boss who's thriving more than 20 years after his prostate treatment.

Help Harry Help Others, have produced a short video talking about the day featuring some famous faces including television presenter Ben Shephard, Birmingham City co-owner Tom Wagner, Weasley Twin actors Oliver Phelps and James Phelps, alongside Midlands broadcaster Ed James DL.

You can find the video here: https://youtube.com/shorts/7ckQhI4-Gms?feature=share

Our long-standing client and friend, Stuart Gizzi, CEO of Intatec, shared his experience of being diagnosed with prostate cancer in his late 50s and being successfully treated because it was caught early.

Stuart put it simply: “Clive and I are both alive because of early testing. That is not theory. It is fact.

"The treatment does knock you for six. But it does not kill you. Ignoring cancer does. Early action gives you options.

"It is the difference between something manageable and months, sometimes years, of consequences.”

A PSA test is a simple blood test that starts with a conversation with your GP. It isn’t automatic or invasive, but it is a choice.

If you are over 50, over 45 with a family history, or if you're Black, that conversation matters even more. If you have symptoms, it matters now.

On World Cancer Day, it feels worth repeating something that can get lost in awareness campaigns: ask the question, get the test, and do not put it off.

Fluffless landed in inboxes on Friday.

This month’s edition brings together our latest work, including a new film with Focus Birmingham, a look at the role of the West Midlands Lieutenancy, and why you shouldn't expect to see an Easter egg hatch this year.

Check your emails, make yourself a cuppa, and have a read.

Working from home is now part of how many of us operate. It’s efficient, flexible, and in January when it’s dark, cold and raining sideways, it can sound particularly appealing.

But a lot of the work we’re involved in loses something when it’s reduced to a Zoom call or a shared screen.

Being there changes how you understand a brief. You notice how people fulfil their roles, how services actually operate, and how conversations land when they’re not

Technology makes distance easy, and for many tasks that’s a genuine advantage. But presence still does something different, and a lot of what matters in our work shows up when you’re there to see it, hear it and pick up the details that don’t make it into a call.

Communicating is rarely the hard part. Understanding tends to require a bit more effort, and often a lot more travel.

Today is International Day of Education.

Education is often discussed in terms of policy, standards and results. What we see day to day is more than that. It's people, energy, and a lot of moving parts working together to make teaching and learning happen.

We’re fortunate to work with some great organisations across the education sector, each playing a different role in supporting schools and young people.

Affinity Workforce Solutions works behind the scenes to keep classrooms staffed. From short-term cover to long-term recruitment, their work helps schools stay open, stable and supported when staffing pressures are high.

Thrive Education Partnership leads seven SEND academies and delivers some excellent outcomes for its pupils. We help to support their communications, telling their stories of achievement and success. It's always a joy to go into a Thrive school.

Maple Hayes Hall School supports pupils with dyslexia and allows children to achieve their full literacy potential, giving them a positive, solid learning experience and GCSE, that in mainstream schools they wouldn't have dreamed possible.

Different roles, different settings, the same goal. Helping educators to tell the success stories of how young people learn, grow and progress.

Nearly a month into the year and it’s been full throttle, with work moving quickly from planning into delivery and plenty happening beyond the office.

We’ve started activity around the King's Award for Voluntary Service, helping to shine a light on the volunteers and community groups who have done outstanding work.

One of the projects we’ve been working on this month is Before the Bell with Affinity Workforce Solutions. We’ve been visiting schools across the country, delivering breakfasts directly to schools, because enthusiasm and ability don’t mean much on an empty stomach.

We’re now putting the finishing touches to a short film about the West Midlands Lieutenancy, featuring Lord Lieutenant Derrick Anderson CBE and Ed James DL, explaining what the Lieutenancy does and why it matters.

Over at Help Harry Help Others, we’ve been celebrating the people who have each raised enough to keep the centre running for an entire day as part of their 365 campaign.

It’s been busy in the right way, with work that feels visible and grounded rather than theoretical. A good reminder that communications only really works when it is tied to something real, with people and outcomes at the centre.

First day back. First snow of the year. Welcome to 2026.

Birmingham looked unusually calm this morning. Blue skies, snow on the rooftops, Big Brum keeping time as ever. A reminder that even familiar cities feel different when the pace slows for a moment. Newcastle is looking about the same, with some great snowy views up the Tyne.

Technology means many of us can stay home, stay warm and still get on with the job. But a lot of the work we’re involved in doesn’t pause for snow days.

The Intatec team are in, dispatching components, some of them heading straight to fix failed heating systems. Focus Birmingham is open, giving service users their first day back in routine. In healthcare, face to face still matters. And the West Midlands Lieutenancy will be out welcoming new British citizens, snow or no snow.
It’s been a good start to the year. Quieter roads, crisp air, and yes, a 4x4 on proper tyres helps.

Mostly though, this is a nod to everyone who made the effort today. The people who turned up, kept services moving, and made workplaces work despite the conditions.

A strong way to begin the year.
