📱How to Choose the Right Social Media for Your Business

Not all social media platforms are created equal, and choosing the right ones can make a huge difference in how you connect with your audience. Here’s how to pick the platforms that best fit your business:

🌟 Know Your Audience: Different platforms attract different audiences. For example, if you’re targeting a younger crowd, TikTok or Instagram might be the best bet. If you’re looking for professionals, LinkedIn could be the place to be.

📸 Focus on Visual Content: If your business thrives on visuals (like products or services with strong aesthetic appeal), Instagram and Pinterest are great options.

✍️ Engage with Thought Leadership: If your goal is to establish yourself as an expert in your field, LinkedIn and X are perfect for sharing insightful articles and joining relevant conversations.

🎥 Use Video to Your Advantage: If you create engaging videos or tutorials, YouTube and TikTok are the ideal platforms to showcase your content.

💬 Start Small and Grow: You don’t have to be everywhere. Focus on one or two platforms where your audience spends the most time, then grow from there.

Choosing the right social media platform is about meeting your audience where they are and using content that resonates. Let Hot Lobster help you build a digital marketing strategy that drives results! 🚀

📉 Is your website quietly costing you customers?

Your website doesn’t have to be completely broken to lose business.

Sometimes it’s the small frustrations that make someone think “I’ll try somewhere else…” and hit the back button. 👋

Here are 5 signs your website could be losing you customers:

📱 It’s poor on mobile
If visitors have to zoom, scroll sideways or struggle to tap buttons, they’re unlikely to stick around. Your website should work just as well on a phone as it does on a desktop.

🐌 It’s slow to load
We’re not exactly known for our patience online. Large images, outdated technology and poor hosting can all leave potential customers waiting.

🧭 It’s confusing to navigate
People shouldn’t need a map and compass to find your services, prices or contact details. Keep menus simple and make important information easy to reach.

❓ It’s unclear what you actually offer
Within seconds of landing on your website, someone should understand what you do, who you help and why they should choose you. Clarity beats cleverness every time.

📞 It’s hard to take the next step
Ready to enquire… but can’t find the contact button? Whether you want people to call, book, buy or request a quote, make the next step obvious.

A good website should make doing business with you easier, not harder. And when you’re busy doing everything else, it should be working away in the background, helping turn visitors into customers.

Recognise a few of these signs? It might be time to give your website some attention. Hot Lobster can help. 🦞✨

🖥️ Does your website look like it belongs on one of these?

Retro computers? Very cool. Retro websites? Maybe not so much. 😬

If your website hasn’t had some attention in years, it could be doing more harm to your business than you realise.

📱 It might not work properly on mobile
Your customers expect a website that looks just as good on their phone as it does on a desktop.

🐌 It could be painfully slow
Old technology, oversized images and outdated code can all affect performance. And nobody waits around for a website to load these days.

🔍 It could be holding back your SEO
Search engines consider things like mobile usability, performance and the overall quality of your website. An ageing site can make getting found even harder.

👀 It affects first impressions
People often check you out online before they ever pick up the phone. If your website looks like it was built in 2006, they might wonder whether your business has moved on since then too.

⚙️ The technology underneath matters too
It’s not just about giving your homepage a prettier design. Outdated software, plugins and systems can cause compatibility, functionality and security headaches.

📞 It might not actually generate business
Modern websites should make it incredibly easy to understand what you do, build trust and take the next step, whether that’s calling, booking, buying or making an enquiry.

There’s nothing wrong with a bit of vintage. Just maybe keep it to the record player, furniture and old-school tech. 😉

If your website is starting to feel like a digital antique, Hot Lobster can bring it firmly into 2026. 🦞✨

📝 What exactly IS a blog… and does your website really need one?

When you hear the word blog, you might picture someone documenting their travels or sharing what they had for breakfast. 😅

But for a small business, a blog is something very different.

It’s simply a section of your website where you regularly publish useful articles, advice, news or insights relevant to your customers.

And yes, there are some very good reasons to have one 👇

🔍 It can help you get found
Every useful blog gives search engines more content to understand and potentially show in relevant searches. A builder might write “How much does a loft conversion cost?”, while an accountant could answer “When should I register for VAT?”

💡 It demonstrates your expertise
Answer the questions customers regularly ask, and you’re showing what you know before they’ve even contacted you.

🌐 It brings people to your website
Someone might not search directly for your business, but they could find one of your articles while looking for an answer to a problem.

📱 It gives you content to share
One good blog can become several social posts, an email newsletter, a LinkedIn post and more. Work smarter, not harder!

🤝 It builds trust
Helpful content shows potential customers that you understand their problems and know what you’re talking about.

So, does every website NEED a blog?

Not necessarily. A neglected blog with its last post dated 2019 probably isn't doing you any favours. 👀

But if your customers regularly search for information, advice or answers related to what you do, a well-planned blog can be a really valuable part of your website and wider marketing strategy.

Need a website that does more than just sit there looking pretty? Hot Lobster can help you build (and maintain) an online presence designed to get your business found. 🦞✨

🔍 SEO: three little letters that can make a BIG difference to your business.

You’ve spent time and money creating a brilliant website. But what happens if nobody can find it?

That’s where Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) comes in.

Put simply, SEO is about improving your website so search engines like Google can better understand what you offer and show your business to people searching for it.

For example, if you’re a plumber in Solihull, you want to appear when someone searches for things like “plumber near me” or “emergency plumber Solihull”.

So, what goes into good SEO?

🔑 The right keywords
Understanding what your potential customers are actually searching for and using those terms naturally across your website.

📍 Local visibility
Optimising your website and Google Business Profile so people searching in your area can discover you.

⚡ A fast, mobile-friendly website
A website that loads quickly, works properly on phones and gives visitors a good experience, gets bonus points by Google.

📝 Useful, relevant information
Answering the questions your customers are searching for and making it clear exactly what you offer.

⚙️ Getting the technical stuff right
From page structure and internal links to metadata and making sure search engines can properly crawl your site, there’s plenty happening behind the scenes too.

SEO isn’t about tricking Google or stuffing your website with keywords. It’s about making it easier for the right people to find the right business at the right time.

Because a beautiful website is great. A beautiful website that your customers can actually find is even better. 👀

💻 What actually is coding?

In simple terms, coding is the language used to tell a website what to do.

It controls everything from how a page looks and moves, to how forms work, how pages load, and how different systems connect behind the scenes.

You might hear terms like:

🧱 HTML – structures the content on the page
🎨 CSS – controls how everything looks
⚙️ JavaScript – adds interaction and functionality
🔗 Backend code – powers things like databases, forms, logins and integrations

And while modern website builders make some things easier, there’s still a lot going on behind the scenes if you want a site that’s fast, secure, responsive and built properly.

So if lines of code make your eyes glaze over, that’s completely fine.

You don’t need to speak code. That’s our job.

Hot Lobster can handle the technical side and turn long lines of code into a website that simply works for you and your customers. 🦞✨

🧩 Put these puzzle pieces together, and not only will your website work harder, but sales could skyrocket too....

Because while your website might look great, your Instagram might be active, and your Google profile might be bringing in views, but if they’re all telling a slightly different story, it can make your brand feel disjointed.

Here are 5 things to tick off to streamline your digital presence:

1️⃣ Your branding is consistent
Always use the same logo, colours, fonts and overall visual style across your website, social media, email marketing and other online profiles.

2️⃣ Your messaging matches
Can someone quickly understand what you do, who you help and why they should choose you, wherever they find you?

3️⃣ Your information is up to date
Check your opening hours, contact details, services, team members, pricing and location across your website, Google Business Profile and socials. Old information can quickly lose trust.

4️⃣ Your customer journey makes sense
Your social posts, ads and blog posts should lead people somewhere useful, with clear landing pages and obvious next steps such as Book, Buy, Call or Enquire.

5️⃣ Your content reflects your business NOW
Still using photos from five years ago? Promoting services you no longer prioritise? Your online presence should represent the business you are today, not the one you were when your website was first built. Don't forget to regularly share news and updates, or even recent projects and case studies to inspire your customers.

💡 Top tip: browse your own website and online profiles as if you were a potential customer. Look at everything they would see and ask yourself: Does this all feel like one brand?

If the answer is not quite, Hot Lobster can help bring everything together, from web design and branding to SEO, content and digital marketing. 🦞

“I know I need to market my business… I just don’t have the time.”

Sound familiar?

When you run a small business, marketing can quickly fall to the bottom of the to-do list. There are customers to look after, invoices to send, emails to answer and about 400 other things demanding your attention. 😅

The good news? Effective marketing doesn’t mean you need to spend every evening glued to Instagram.

Here are a few ways to make staying consistent MUCH easier:

🌐 Get your website working harder
A good website is marketing your business even when you’re not. While you’re working, eating dinner or even fast asleep, it can be attracting customers, explaining your services, answering common questions, showcasing your work, building trust and generating enquiries. Think of it as your 24/7 salesperson.

♻️ Reuse what you already have
One customer question could become a social post, blog, email and website FAQ. Work smarter, not harder.

📸 Capture as you go
Finished a great project? Take a photo. Received a lovely review? Screenshot it. Answered an interesting customer question? Make a note. Your everyday work is full of potential marketing content.

⏰ Batch and schedule
Create several posts in one sitting and schedule them in advance. You can stay visible without having to remember to post every day.

🎯 Focus on what actually works
You don't need to be on every platform. Put your energy into the places your customers actually spend their time.

🤝 And know when to outsource
If marketing is permanently sitting at the bottom of your to-do list, getting some support can free you up to focus on the parts of the business that really need you.

The goal isn’t to spend more time marketing. It’s to build a marketing setup that keeps working when you’re busy doing everything else.

From websites that sell while you sleep to ongoing digital marketing support, Hot Lobster can help take a few things off that never-ending to-do list. 🦞✨

🐾 Another fetching website has gone LIVE!

We’ve recently launched a brand-new website for Hollywood Veterinary Centre, giving their online presence a fresh new look. 🐶🐱

Here's the URL in case you want to check it out: https://hollywoodvets.co.uk/

And this refresh wasn’t just about appearances.

Veterinary practices have updated requirements on the information that needs to be made clear and accessible to clients online. Making sure the website reflected these changes was an important part of the brief, alongside creating a much better experience for pet owners.

The result?

✨ Clear, simple navigation
📱 Designed to work beautifully on mobile
🐕 Strong imagery and personality
📋 Important practice and service information clearly displayed
📍 Key information easy to find
📞 Clear routes to get in touch
🎨 A look and feel that reflects the Hollywood Vets brand

It’s a great reminder that websites aren’t something you build once and forget about. As your business, and the requirements in your industry change, your website needs to keep up too.

We’re really pleased with how this one turned out. And we think it looks pretty pawsome… 🦞🐾

Is your website looking a little ruff around the edges, or simply no longer keeping up with your business?

Get in touch and let’s give it a new lease of life.

🎬 Behind the scenes with the Hot Lobster team!

We’ve been out on location at P&H Fabrications , capturing fresh photos, video and drone content for their new website. 📸

Because a great website isn’t just about clever design.

The right imagery can show potential customers exactly what you do, how you do it, and the people and expertise behind the business.

For P&H Fabrications, that means getting right into the action and capturing:

📸 Professional photography of the team, facilities and machinery
🎥 Video content that brings their processes to life
🚁 Drone footage to showcase the scale of their premises and operations
🌐 Plenty of original content to use throughout their new website and wider marketing

Stock photography has its place, but when you want customers to understand what makes your business different, nothing beats the real thing.

And yes, sometimes that means getting very up close and personal with some rather large machinery... 😅

New website on the way. Watch this space! 🦞👀
