Google’s August Spam Update is complete – and if your rankings have moved, there’s no need to panic just yet 👀
The update ran globally from 18 – 21 August, updating Google’s spam systems across all languages. Google hasn’t confirmed exactly what it was designed to target, so there’s plenty of speculation around what may have been affected.
But instead of reacting to the headlines, take a look at what’s actually happening on your site.
Have particular pages or queries dropped? Has your organic traffic changed? Looking at the data can help you spot patterns and work out whether there’s something you need to act on 📊
And remember: a change in rankings doesn’t automatically mean the spam update is responsible. Search demand, competitors and other changes across Google can all play a part too.
