We're excited to be hiring again. This time for a Senior Full Stack Developer. If you think you fit the role, please get in touch. We'd love to hear from you!

24/06/2020

We know, we know. “Full stack” doesn’t really mean anything – it’s a buzzword that really means “an all-rounder”. Someone that’s skilled in several languages and frameworks, that likes to learn new things and take on a challenge. But that really is what we’re looking for.

We exist to create the best of the web.

To do that, we need our team to be world class. Tackling the real-world challenges that our clients throw at us requires an attention-to-detail, a logical mindset and the ability to see a problem for what it is. And that is hard to find.

It may sound like a lofty ambition, but Many exists to make the world a better place. We’ll do that by partnering with incredible clients – ones that want to enhance human kind, rather than make a quick buck. Ones that care about the quality of their product. Ones that understand the impact their products have on people and the environment, and continually strive to be better.

In return, we build those clients best-in-breed online experiences that elevate their brand above the noise.

We’re only a small team at the moment, but with a series of really successful client wins and project launches that are blowing away all other results, we’re ready to start our expansion.

That's where you come in.

Variety is the spice of life and with the work we do, you’ll never be bored. We’re predominantly eCommerce focused, so you’ll operate across a range of platforms including Magento, Shopify and WooCommerce. But we’re not talking about copy-and-paste off the shelf themes: everything we do is bespoke, from design, development, launch and devops for keeping things online; we handle everything ourselves, so we can be sure of the quality.

You’ll need an architect’s brain, continually striving to understand, design and simplify complex problems. Our entire culture is built around making technology understandable, making the complex simple and employing critical thinking to solve problems. In fact, we place a huge emphasis on the culture we’re trying to build – you can read our culture deck here.

Day-to-day, you’ll be working in a variety of frameworks: Vue.js, Magento, Laravel, Node / Express, WordPress and WooCommerce. You’ll also manage our hosting infrastructure for our clients, predominantly high-availability AWS stacks as well our CI/CD systems and deployment processes.

It’ll be a fairly autonomous role – you’ll report directly to the Founder and you’ll manage your own workload. You’ll strategise, plan and prepare for growth, whilst covering the day-to-day development needs. You’ll need to be a good multitasker – that’s for sure, and organisation is key. You’ll be based in our Bournemouth office, but we travel to where our clients are – nationally and internationally.

What’s more, you’ll be doing this for a reason. We’ve committed to building an animal sanctuary in India, and a large percentage of our profits go into this cause. When building work begins, you’ll know that your work contributed to the success of that project.

We’re looking for someone that fits the bill:

- Several years of senior development experience, preferably in a team leadership role
- Several years of VueJS experience (this is our main language)
- Experience maintaining LAMP hosting stacks in AWS, preferably Ubuntu.
- An ability to present complex theories and concepts to a non-technical audience
- The ability to develop and code review highly-optimised, cross-browser and elegant code
- An appetite for open-source contribution and for engaging with a community
- A willingness to teach skills and knowledge to less experienced developers and to provide thorough and constructive feedback
- An understanding of agile project management and associated toolsets

For the right candidate, we’ll provide great benefits in return. A salary of £40,000 – £50,000 and we’ll give you a stake in the success – profit shares, an excellent pension, private medical cover, 35 days holiday and the opportunity to become part of and ultimately build a team of incredible people around you.

But more importantly, you’ll shape your own future – everything is on the table for improvement, and you can lead this. Process, procedures, coding guidelines – you’ll take an active part in the betterment of all of this.

This day, back in 1954, was the first day that phototypesetting was used in place of traditional typesetting.

Meaning we went from blocks to screens for the layout of newspapers.

We thought we’d pay homage considering we are based in the foundry of an old newspaper factory.

57% of internet users say they won’t recommend a business with a poorly designed website on mobile. (https://bit.ly/3c3z78C)

Just think, when was the last time you checked your own site on mobile? How was the experience? Was it tailored to mobile? Did it take advantage of the latest technology such as PWAs.

It's always a good idea to quickly audit your mobile site. We've provided a checklist on just how to do that as well as details about why it's important to make sure mobile is top of your game.
