🧡 Southbourne has a brand new place to eat, and this time it’s a Turkish Restaurant

Rosemary Southbourne has just opened, bringing a menu of hot and cold mezze, charcoal-grilled meats, kebabs, house specials, fish and plenty more to the heart of Southbourne. We popped in for a first look, and they’ve created a proper sit-down restaurant feel inside, with dark green and gold details, chandeliers, a central bar and plenty of space for a long dinner rather than a quick bite.

It’s still very early days, but between the menu and the transformation of the space, Rosemary is a pretty substantial new addition to Southbourne’s food scene.

Bournemouth International Film Festival - BIFF is back this October, bringing two full days of independent cinema, filmmaker conversations and industry events to the town 🎬

Taking place on 9th + 10th October at Hilton Bournemouth, this year’s festival brings together feature films, shorts, documentaries and animation from the UK and beyond, alongside talks, workshops, panels and opportunities to hear directly from the people behind the work. The 2026 theme is Social Realism, with a focus on real stories, communities and everyday life.

Day passes start from £24.99, with the programme running across both Friday and Saturday and the festival culminating in its Black-Tie Awards Night.

If independent film is your thing, or you simply fancy discovering something you probably won’t see at your usual cinema, this is one to get in the diary. 🧡

Just down the road from Southbourne, Christchurch Town Quay is one of those places that always feels worth the short trip. 🧡

There’s something about the Quay that just feels like Christchurch. Boats drifting past, the river running through the centre of town, the Priory nearby and that slower pace you only really notice when you stop for a minute.

It’s one of those places that doesn’t need much explaining. A walk along the water, a coffee nearby, watching the boats come and go, and suddenly you remember why this little corner of Dorset is so easy to love.

Who else misses seeing the Bournemouth Eye floating above the Lower Gardens? 🎈

For years, the Bournemouth Eye was one of those sights you instantly associated with the town. That enormous balloon rising above the trees, the little basket of people underneath and some pretty incredible views if you were brave enough to go up yourself…

It’s been a decade since it disappeared, but looking back at these photos, it’s hard not to feel a little nostalgic. Bournemouth has changed quite a bit since then, and we’re curious how many people would love to see something like this make a comeback 🧡

Boscombe has plenty of places to grab a coffee, but Joy Cafe was created to do something much bigger 🧡

What started in 2015 with two trestle tables, instant coffee, cupcakes and free activities for local families has grown into a permanent not-for-profit community café in the heart of Churchill Gardens. Eleven years later, the idea is still remarkably simple: good food, good coffee and somewhere people actually feel welcome.

Behind the coffee is a huge amount of community work too. Joy runs initiatives including its Pay It Forward board, affordable drinks, community activities, peer support and free or low-cost events, all supported by a small team of staff and local volunteers.

It’s the kind of place that makes sense of the phrase “community café”. Somewhere to meet people, ask for help, lend a hand, bring the kids, join an activity or simply sit down with a flat white… and Boscombe is better for having it 🌿

Boscombe’s The Royal Arcade Boscombe is getting a new wellness fair this autumn, bringing local practitioners, therapists and independent businesses together beneath that incredible glass roof 🧡

The first Royal Arcade Wellness Fair takes place on Saturday 3 October, followed by a second on Saturday 7 November. Both run from 10am to 3pm with free entry, giving people a chance to explore everything from movement, massage and therapy to meditation, creativity, coaching, Reiki and more.

It’s being organised by Such a Beautiful Day and The Well Coffee Lounge, which is part of Safe and Sound Dorset. The full line-up is still being put together, so expect more local names to be announced as the dates get closer…

And honestly, the setting makes a lot of sense. The Royal Arcade has become home to a growing mix of independents, cafés, creative businesses and community events, so this feels like another good reason to spend a little longer exploring Boscombe rather than simply passing through 🌿

Southbourne has plenty of ways to get moving without stepping anywhere near a conventional gym 🧡

From yoga by the sea and smaller Pilates classes to adult dance, Boxercise and bodyweight training by the coast, there’s a surprisingly varied fitness scene right on the doorstep…

For yoga, we’ve come across SOBO Wellness, Southbourne Beach Yoga, silentyogauk and YOGA & WELLNESS, while Sobo Pilates (Georgia) and Nicky - Pilates & wellness are two local options if Pilates is more your thing. You Time Fitness & Well-being also runs ladies-only Boxercise locally, and Wessex School of Dancing offers adult ballet and tap from Southbourne Road.

For calisthenics and bodyweight training, Jasper Wellness is another local name worth knowing, especially if you like the idea of getting outside and making the most of the coast 🌊
