Starbucks Logo Re-design Concept - New or Old?

In this re-design, I have retained the Starbucks 'siren' (mermaid character) and have simplified the mark in subtle ways.

The lower part of the hair has been removed, the colour system has been reversed in order to reduce ink consumption. The typography has also been altered in subtle ways, increasing the kerning slightly between some letters and thinning out the text.

Starbucks Logo Re-design Concept

In this re-design, I have retained the Starbucks 'siren' (mermaid character) and have simplofied the mark in subtle ways.
The lower part of the hair has been removed, the colour system has been reversed in order to connote purity and to reduce ink consumption. The typography has also been altered in subtle ways, increasing the kerning slightly between some letters and thinning out the text.

I‘ve decided to design my version of the Nationwide Building Society logo (icon & full lockup). The original logo has never been my favourite as I feel that it is too abstract to extract much meaning from at a glance.
