Mission accomplished

Yesterday I got up at the obscene hour of 5am (on a Sunday! 😵‍💫) and ran 13.1 miles in the Big Half in London. All in aid of Children's Hearts UK.

It was difficult and warm but the atmosphere was just amazing.

I finished the half in 2:57:02, but given the heat, and the fact I had shin splints a couple of weeks ago, I'm happy with that.

I now have a shiny new medal, chafing, minor sunburn and am sitting firmly in my chair for most of today as my legs are a bit stiff.

So far we have raised £1260!! 🤩🤩 Thank you so much to everyone who donated. This is going to make a big difference in the research and support that Children's Hearts UK makes to children with heart conditions and their families.

Getting Ready for the Big Half on Sunday

I'm in the process of getting my kit ready for the Big Half Marathon that I will be running this Sunday. Here I have my Badge number, Baggage number, Personalised t-shirt, drink bottle and wet bag.

I have yet to get my Gels, magnetic studs (way more reliable than safety pins) and water bottles ready but that will be a last minute job.

on Sunday Morning, I will be leaving Colchester at about 5.45am to get to Aldgate for 0915. Ouch.

There is still time to donate to Children's Hearts UK, the charity that I am running for. We're currently up to £725. I'd love to get past £1000.

Hey, I am at the top of Google!

Let's have a quick show of hands:

Do you regularly type in your main keyphrase to see where you are ranking?

And where are you in that list? Are you at the top?

Wow, go you! 👏

OK, keep your hand up if you are getting constant enquiries to your website, sales or even phone calls?

Bummer. 😬

Let me explain what might have happened.

Being at the top of Google doesn't necessarily mean you're at the top of everyone else's Google. Google doesn't simply show everyone exactly the same results. Your search results can be influenced by things such as your location, your search history and the device you're using.

And if you've searched for your own business dozens of times, Google has a pretty good idea that you're interested in it! 🙇

So you might be seeing your website sitting proudly at number 1…while your potential customers are seeing something completely different.

And there's another problem: Ranking for a keyphrase is only useful if that keyphrase is actually bringing the right people to your website.

You could be number 1 and get very few enquiries, or you could be number 5 and have a steady stream of people contacting you.

So instead of constantly Googling yourself and celebrating that little number 1…
look at what really matters.

🖱️Are they clicking?
☎️ Are they contacting you?
🎯And, most importantly… Are they becoming customers?

Because being number 1 on Google might look impressive.

But being number 1 in your customers' minds is what really pays your bills. 💸

We have just relaunched the website for executive and renewal coach Tania Jenkinson. Originally an executive coach, Tania now offers help and guidance for career women who have gone through serious illness and need reconnecting with the next stage of their life.

The web page is build on HTML, CSS and PHP. Other features include GDPR compliance, contact form, back to top functionality and scrolling effects between sections.

Hello everyone, I am Deb

For anyone who hasn't met me in person, here's a little introduction: I am Deb Harrison and I am the web designer and search marketing consultant for DVH Design.

I started DVH Design way back in 2000 while I was already working full-time as a Sales Administrator at a software company. the year before I had been made redundant and knew I didn't want to be a secretary for all of my career. It was actually my now ex-husband who gave me the idea: I was good with colours and design and this was around the time of Windows 98.

My first stop was a day course in Microsoft FrontPage (imagine Wix as a software platform). DVH Design launched at the end of 2000 as a part-time company.

The following year, I fell pregnant with my daughter. I knew I wasn't going to go back working for someone else full-time, so I not only started preparing for the baby but also the new business. FrontPage had got me through the first year and first couple of gigs, but even I was beginning to see its limitations.

So my first maternity leave was spent reading a Teach yourself HTML and CSS in 21 days. I got through the book in 8 months.

I got into SEO at the start of 2005, on the same basis: One of my early clients employed the services of a black hat marketer (somebody who could game Google into the #1 position). I then added this as a service

DVH Design went full-time in 2014 then the children were about high school age.

Since then, I have got to grips with most of the popular E-commerce and CMS platforms, responsive web design and how to keep ahead of Google forever moving the goal posts. I have also taken to networking face-to-face which was a case of "grabbing the bull by the horns."

We had a major rebrand in 2019 and are still evolving. This year we have started to offer AI chat bots and callers, ensuring our clients do not miss those all-important leads while they are working.

I now live in Colchester with my boyfriend, our 3 dogs, 2 Leopard Geckos and a Corn Snake. In my spare time, I go running and go to festivals and gigs. I also love travelling, fancy dress, gardening and Lego and WWE are my guilty pleasures.
