Am I using AI as a tool, or a crutch?

It is remarkably easy to cross that line without noticing.

If software handles the tedious admin so you have more time to think, it is a tool. But if you rely on it to skip the actual thinking because you are stuck or pressed for time, it has become a crutch.

The moment you stop questioning the output is the moment your business starts sounding like everyone else. Tech can speed up a process, but it will never care about the final result as much as you do.

***WEDNESDAY ROUND-UP***

Since almost every event this week landed in the exact same twenty-four-hour window, we swapped our usual Weekly Round-Up for a Wednesday Round-Up.

Fittingly, with our latest blog asking if businesses are getting too reliant on AI, Bec started her morning at Assa Abloy discussing responsible use of AI with the Platinum Group before heading to Coventry for the LSIP Employer Steering Group launch to help tackle training and upskilling issues.

Meanwhile, Dan kicked off with Black Country Chamber networking at Halesowen College, then caught up with Manny at Sorted Print to hand over the flags we helped produce for his latest challenge.

With the rest of the team manning the phones and keeping client work flying, it turned out to be an entire week's worth of action packed into one day.

Proof that real human connection still runs the show.

Manny Singh Kang reached out to Dan with a question. Could Eighty3 help with flags for Manny's Mile?

His new challenge? 50 miles, 50 Wolverhampton schools, two days, 25 schools a day, getting kids fundraising and moving alongside him the whole way.

We said yes before we'd even worked out the how. Then we brought in Emma and David at Sorted Print Services (we connected through the Black Country Chamber) to turn the designs into hand-waving flags for every single school on the route.

Huge respect to Manny for taking this on. We're really proud to have been part of it alongside Sorted.

Here's a bit of this AI fortnight we haven't talked about yet: sorting a website's user journey.

When we built the site for Laura Tatton, The AI Lady, she already had a strong visual identity sorted. Our job wasn't to reinvent that. It was to work out how two very different people find their way to booking her.

One's a complete novice who just wants a quick power hour to stop feeling daft about AI. The other's a director planning a full corporate workshop for their team. Same website, two completely different journeys, and both need to feel obvious the second they land.

No AI tool maps that out for you. That takes actually understanding who Laura's clients are and what they're nervous about.

We also wove her testimonials straight into the core pages instead of tucking them away on a separate page nobody visits. Her reputation does the talking, right where people are deciding.
