AI can create the idea. That doesn’t mean it’s ready to manufacture.
ChatGPT and other AI tools are brilliant for creating logos, signage concepts, branding ideas and realistic visual mock-ups.
We use AI ourselves, and it’s becoming an incredibly useful part of the creative process.
But there’s an important difference between something that looks good on a screen and something that’s ready to print, cut, fabricate or install.
We’re increasingly being sent AI-generated logos and signage visuals with the assumption that they’re finished artwork.
Often, they’re not.
For professional signage and branding, we may need proper vector artwork such as AI, EPS, SVG or print-ready PDF files. We need to be able to access the actual paths, colours, fonts, dimensions and individual elements — not simply work from a flattened JPEG or PNG.
And when it comes to manufacturing signage, there’s even more to consider.
Can those letters actually be fabricated at that size?
Are the strokes wide enough?
Will LEDs physically fit inside?
Is there enough space for wiring and connections?
Are the returns and faces achievable?
Will the materials work as intended?
How will it fix to the building?
Will it actually look like the visual once manufactured?
For illuminated signage, LED quantities and layouts aren’t guessed from a picture either. They’re calculated using specialist software based on accurate dimensions and vector artwork.
The same applies to logos.
AI can create a fantastic-looking brand concept, but the file it produces isn’t necessarily suitable for vehicle graphics, large-format print, CNC cutting, illuminated letters, embroidery or other real-world applications without being professionally prepared.
AI is an incredible tool for creating the vision.
Our job is turning that vision into something that actually works.
