Still posting every day because someone on the internet told you that's the secret?
Instagram has other ideas.
A few things that seem to matter a lot more in 2026:
π© Shares beat likes
If someone sends your post to a friend, that's a much stronger signal than a quick double tap. Instagram sees it as content worth sharing, not just scrolling past.
β° The first hour or so matters
If your followers engage with a post soon after it goes live, Instagram is more likely to show it to more people. If nobody bites, your reach can stall before it really gets started.
π Returning viewers are valuable
Instagram likes seeing the same people come back to watch your content again and again. That's one reason series and related posts often outperform random one-offs.
π Profile visits matter
If people watch a Reel and then visit your profile, Instagram sees that as a sign you've sparked genuine interest.
πͺ Early exits aren't great
If people swipe away after a couple of seconds, that's usually a stronger signal than simply not engaging at all.
In other words...
Less focus on posting constantly.
More focus on creating things people actually want to watch, share and come back for.
If Instagram still feels like a mystery wrapped in an algorithm wrapped in another algorithm, I've put together a free setup guide 'Instagram: Explained'.
It covers the settings, features and tools most people never get shown when they create an account.
