Off-Campus confession time. I know, I know, I'm a bit late to the party, but I am completely obsessed.
I have just started watching 'Off Campus' and it is giving me ultimate nostalgic '10 Things I Hate About You' energy. It has that total late 90s and 00s rom com, comfort-watch feel. Even the soundtrack is absolutely spot on.
But here is the best part, and why I am loving it so much. It takes all those classic, cheesy tropes we grew up with, but it completely flips the script for the modern world.
Instead of the usual toxicity, it actually champions female agency and genuine consent. The masculinity is refreshing and non-toxic, the characters actually communicate, and it handles really heavy, difficult subjects like trauma and abuse with so much sensitivity. It is everything I loved about old-school rom-coms (I'm not ashamed to admit it), just updated with the emotional intelligence we actually want to see on screen today.
(Plus, let's be entirely honest, the cast is absolute eye candy, which definitely helps. Garret is giving major Heath Ledger, Patrick Verona vibes and I am 100% here for it.)
Consider this my official recommendation if you need something brilliant to unwind with this week.
Has anyone else watched it yet? Let me know your thoughts in the comments, but please keep it spoiler-free!
