Hospital Graphics

Hospital Graphics Beautifully effective design + art, making hospital spaces better places to be.

A recent rush-project for Lewisham Urgent Treatment Unit. Adrian created artwork reflecting the nature, planting and river around the hospital. Feedback was lovely: “The UTC looks fantastic and the environment is exactly what we hoped for – the work we commissioned from you is key to the aesthetics we have managed to achieve.”

Installed today, a huge infographic at Lister Hospital, Stevenage, explaining what to expect when you visit them for cancer treatment. We hope our design will alleviate a little of the stress patients and visitors must feel.

This week we've installed installed a project at Perspectum, Oxford Community Diagnostic Centre, into a Respiratory Early Diagnosis room where often people are told bad news.

The brief was to make the improve the appearance of the space: to make a ‘warmer’ less basic space, to create a more appropriate, sympathetic environment for difficult conversations with families around diagnoses and prognosis. No sunsets or sunflowers and careful consideration any references to end of life.

Our solution was an abstract image of leaves, the colours muted to avoid sunset/daybreak colours, and to give enough detail to distract without being overwhelming in the small space. Because all of our work is bespke, we can meet most briefs.

Graphics to improve wayfinding, brighten up corridors and simplify information for visitors.

We were approached in 2021 by Helen Sanger, a physiotherapist at Newcastle Hospitals. They have four adult critical care units, each of 20-26 beds, covering different specialities.

Helen and her team recognised that our graphics could improve visitor experience and that something relatively dense in information would be worthwhile in the waiting rooms, as visitors frequently spend prolonged periods of time there.

The team wanted information about critical illness and the patient experience, and the experience of family and friends, our bed diagrams and something about the pathway from ICU to ward to rehab to home. After a visit in 2022, we proposed a variety of designs.

We developed a suite of graphics for Newcastle, including:
• CCU equipment infographics
• Welcome signs with local icons
• Pathway diagrams, showing the journey through CCU
• Large-format diagrams showing the experience of family and friends through quotes.

Clear signage and explanations in plain english improved the ICU visitor experience. Here are some quotes from visitors:
"Due to bedside board it was easy to ask the nurse about the equipment"
"Bright, colourful and easy to read"
"Gives answers to questions you may not want to ask"
"Helpful for children"

All of our diagrams are bespoke – both size and content.

We provide you with our A-Z of equipment and you can choose exactly what you want on your infographic or your information sign. We can work to (pretty much) any size and shape. Here are a couple of recent, really, really long bed diagram infographics and an information sign, recently installed at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and the Countess Of Chester Hospital

Thank you to all the staff who made it happen.

We visited Gloucester Hospital yesterday for a potential new project and while we were there we visited our recently installed work for the CCU. Making the space easier to navigate, friendlier and improving the communication. Plus Adrian's fabulous illustrations!

Bold graphics for Southmead Hospital NHS careers hub. The first time we visited, we couldn't fine the hub - now you can't miss it! We hope that's a good thing! 😊

An additional project for Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich scanner centre, we created artwork on the staircase wall linking the hospital to the local area by representing a stylised illustration of Greenwich and the Thames landscape across five panels. At the top of the lift, a large photo of St Paul’s and the Millennium Bridge greets visitors.

And we love an image of staff in front of our work. Thank you Anna Matthams and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust - great to work with you.
