A little reminder that you don’t need a design degree to become a designer 🫶🏼✨

I’m a self-taught designer, and when I first started, I had no idea what I was doing. Just a love for being creative, a lot of curiosity and the willingness to figure things out along the way!!

There’s been a lot of trial and error, countless hours of learning and plenty of moments where I questioned myself, but every little step has helped me get to where I am today.

So I thought I’d share how I got started and some of the tips I wish I’d known at the beginning.

Last week I had 80+ messages from people asking me the same thing: “How do you actually get clients as a designer?”

There are honestly so many things I could share, but for me it always comes back to three things: showing up, building trust, and letting people see how passionate you are about what you do.

You can be an amazing designer, but if people don’t know you exist, understand what you offer, or feel confident investing in you, getting clients is always going to feel harder.

So I’ve pulled together my biggest tips especially if you’re just starting out, trying to build momentum, or you’re in that frustrating stage where the enquiries just aren’t coming in yet.

I get so many messages asking what I charge and, more importantly, how I know what to charge.

The truth is, I didn’t always know. I started out charging £5 for logos, then slowly increased my prices as my skills improved, demand grew and I became more confident in the value of my work!

There wasn’t one magic moment where I suddenly knew my “worth”, it was a lot of learning, getting busier, hitting capacity, raising my prices and realising people were still booking me🥺

So if you’re wondering what you should charge: start somewhere, keep improving, pay attention to demand, and don’t be scared to adjust your prices as you grow.

We can’t design £5 logos forever😩
