For my first small business feature I spoke to H**e from boochacha.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is H**e and I am from Dorset. I love the ocean, I go cold water swimming and paddle boarding all year round! Enjoy live music, festivals, surfing and cycling too and am always trying out new health trends, hence my obsession with kombucha! After 5 years of work as a mechanical engineer I decided it was time to go on a career break and travel solo! I had the best time ever, starting off in Asia then headed over to Central America and Mexico.
What does your business do?
My business is spreading the word about home-brew kombucha and selling home-brew kits! My kits each have a hand-painted and unique fermentation jar. A lot of my work is educating people, and providing samples so those who’ve never heard of it can try! I have bigger plans for the future, hoping to get bars, restaurants and cafes to set up their own kits so they can sell the kombucha to their customers and provide something for the alcohol free community!
When did you start your business and why?
When I went traveling I had my first experience of kombucha in Japan, where it has been used for over 2000 years, and after moving home decided to start making my own. I felt huge benefits to my health through drinking it each morning, especially the home-brew and began to tell friends and set kits up for them! I was made redundant from my job, and that was what pushed me into the business!
What does the local creator community mean to you?
I love meeting fellow small business people, it always feels like everyone in that community has such a great happy-nervous buzz about them! I guess we’ve all taken a leap into the unknown and have decided to take a risk and see where we end up with some hard work and determination!
Finally, how can we find you and support you?
I have kombucha kits available on the website www.BooChaCha.co.uk ! Keep an eye on the Instagram account (.cha.cha) too. It’s a great kit to take through to the new year and kickstart a new healthy habit, without being too much of the new year new me thing, let’s just be healthier me’s!
