Prochem Q&A: you ask, our experts answer. Today we're on the topic of cleaning silk, a task that requires particular care 👇

Q: How do you clean silk upholstery and headboards?

A: The answer is: with care! Silk and some other water-sensitive fabrics cannot be wet-cleaned. Hand cleaning with Prochem's Fine Fabric Solvent Cleaner can be carried out by lightly spraying the fabric with solvent then towelling off with a clean white terry towel.

This method will not remove water-based stains. For water-soluble soils, add Solvent Cleaner Additive. Always pre-test, as it can affect water-sensitive fabrics, and be sure to consult the Product Specification Sheet.

Products can be purchased via the Prochem website, where you'll also find details on the comprehensive training courses we offer: www.prochem.co.uk

On the fence about attending one of Prochem's specialist training courses? Allow a past testimonial to persuade you...

The former owner of Pro Carpet Cleaning, Dan Gunner attended one of our Stain Removal sessions and described Prochem's facilities at our headquarters in Chessington as fantastic, our training manuals as excellent, and the day "well worth it – hands-on and really helpful".

Says Dan, participating was highly beneficial: "it sharpened my focus into this part of my cleaning business. I now find that it gives me far more confidence to discuss with customers the options.

In fact, the day after the course, I had call from a client that resulted in a professional and successful job when I might have opted against the task."

Prochem offers a range of industry recognised training courses for carpet, upholstery and floor cleaning and maintenance, covering the latest techniques and maintenance methods.

Details, including forthcoming dates and information on how to book, can be found via our website: www.prochem.co.uk/training-courses

Prochem Q&A: you ask, our experts answer. Today, we explore the less than ideal scenario of carpet adhesive on concrete flooring, and how best to tackle its removal 👇

Q: Help! How do I get carpet adhesive off of a concrete floor?

A: It's not feasible to use solvents over large areas. If the layer of adhesive is thin, “sanding” with a grit disc followed by vacuuming and then scrubbing with Prochem's Powerclean may work. If the adhesive is a tackifier, try scrubbing with Powerclean and very hot water.

Do a test area before taking on the job. If the adhesive has hardened it will prove very difficult to remove, so it's wise to manage your customer's expectations where possible.

Products can be purchased directly via the Prochem website, or through our comprehensive network of distributors: https://prochem.co.uk/product/powerclean-5l/

News: Free how-to guides for cleaners – Prochem has it taped ⚠️ http://prochemcleaningnews.com/free-guides-cleaners-prochem-taped/

Cleaning products specialist Prochem has expanded its free online Technical Help Guides to include advice on prespray chemicals, infection control and removing adhesive tape residue.

Cleaners removing yellow and black social distancing tape from carpets and hard flooring are left with a tacky residue to contend with. But even a temporary tape removal and if required, re-application, can help protect the carpet from long-term damage.

“Nearly seventy per cent of all calls into the Prochem technical helpline are from large cleaning and FM companies struggling with this issue,” says our sales & training manager Phil Jones. “Our sales team have been out helping by demonstrating the removal system.”

Prochem tested removal techniques with a selection of tapes on all types of flooring including Milliken and Interface carpet tiles before uploading its latest guide covering which solutions to use along with how.

You can find the answers here, along with all of our Prochem Technical Help Guides, free to download: prochem.co.uk/cleaning-technical-help-guides
