I can usually tell within about 10 seconds what kind of support a business owner really needs.

When I recently arrived to meet a new client, she was rushing around with approximately 472 things to do — and I immediately thought:

“You don’t need me to give you more work. You need me to take something off your plate.”

And that’s exactly what I want to do for my clients.

Yes, I’ll sometimes need to ask questions. I’ll need photos from behind the scenes and I’ll always check you’re happy with what I’m creating.

But I’m not here to take up hours of your week, hand you scripts to learn or make social media feel like yet another job you have to squeeze in.

I’ll get to know your business, understand your voice and endeavour to handle as much as I possibly can without constantly bothering you.

Because good social media management shouldn’t leave you feeling even more stressed and overwhelmed.

It should feel like one less thing to think about.

And that’s the kind of social media manager I want to be. 💛

What building a little business actually looks like…

Mentally writing content plans for my clients while trudging through the woods in the pouring rain with six dogs 😂🌧️🐾

Dog walking pays the bills while I build Spa Town Marketing — so the waterproofs go on, the dogs get walked and every spare bit of brain space is used for captions, content ideas and client plans.

It might not look particularly glamorous, but I’m building this little business around an already very full working life — one rainy dog walk and one client at a time.

Because someone’s got to pay to get my expensive daughter through uni next year 😂😂

And honestly? I’m really quite proud of myself. ❤️

Messages like this genuinely mean the world to me 🥹

Not only because it’s lovely to hear that someone has complimented the content I’ve created, but because it reassures me that what I’m doing is exactly right for that particular client.

Because no two businesses are the same.

What works brilliantly for one might feel completely wrong for another. Every business has its own personality, audience, goals and way of communicating—and the content should reflect that.

There isn’t one social media strategy that suits everyone. My job is to get to know each client properly, understand how they want people to feel when they see their posts, and create content that sounds like them—not like every other business online.

So yes, WhatsApps like this make my day. I’ll happily take that huge compliment 🥰

Confessions of a Social Media Manager…

I have absolutely no idea what to post today. 😂

Usually, when I’m out dog walking, I have my best ideas. My mind is clear, I’ve got plenty of time to think and the content ideas just appear.

Not this week. This week, my brain is currently trying to think about:

Going away this weekend.
Sorting the dog.
Sorting the cats.
Washing.
Ironing.
Packing.
Cleaning the house (because obviously this has to be done before you go away).
Getting my nails done.
Taking my daughter on a driving lesson.
What on earth we’re having for tea (the mental bain of my life).
Doing tonight’s client post.
Planning for meeting a potential new client
And ringing around trying to help another client arrange something for a potential event.

Not forgetting walking 32 dogs over the next two days 🐶

There are approximately 8 million tabs open in my brain and absolutely none of them contain an interesting idea for my own social media. 😂

But I suppose that’s a confession worth sharing in itself.

Sometimes, when you’ve got so much going on inside your own business and your own life, thinking of something to post becomes just another thing on the list.

My clients don’t have to worry about that. Their content is planned, created and posted because, when I’m working on their social media, it’s one of my priorities.

My own page, however?

She gets whatever brainpower is left over. And today, apparently, it’s this. 😂

When a client needs an urgent post, Aldi car park becomes the office 😂

Final dog dropped home, van parked up and straight onto creating and publishing the post they needed — because sometimes social media can’t wait until I’m home, showered and sitting nicely at a desk.

The reality of running two businesses? You work wherever you happen to be… even if that’s from the driver’s seat of a dog-walking van in full Aldi-car-park sunshine ☀️😂

But being there when my clients need me is exactly why I love what I do. Their business matters to me too.

Apparently there was a solar eclipse over Buxton tonight 🌒

Eclipse glasses were £20.

Fortunately, Clare is married to a fabricator.

So naturally we headed up to Solomon’s Temple armed with a picnic blanket, w**e, popcorn, chocolate and a welding helmet. 😂

Is this relevant to social media management? Absolutely not.

But not every post needs a strategy behind it. Sometimes you just need to put on a welding helmet, drink some w**e on a hill and watch the moon pass in front of the sun.

And quite frankly, I think the Spa Town grid is better for it. 😂

Apparently some people like to do one thing at a time.

Couldn’t be me. 😂

Today so far I’ve…

🐾 Done 3 hours of dog walks (not even mentioning the hours of picking up and dropping off)

And then in one go…

🧾 Sorted my dog walking invoicing and accounts
☀️ Rearranged 24 dogs over the next two days because of the hot weather
📱 Created social media posts for two clients
💻 Created this post for Spa Town

And right now?

I’m walking into town to take some photos for a client’s post later… while posting this as I walk. 😂

The reality is, I LOVE having 8 million things going on at once.

Dog walking. Social media. Admin. Client work. Content creation. Plans changing at the last minute because apparently the weather has other ideas…

Some people would probably find the constant switching exhausting, but I genuinely think I work better like this.

It might look like chaos from the outside, but there’s actually a LOT of organisation happening behind the scenes to keep all those plates spinning.

And I think that’s exactly why social media and business support suits me so well.

Give me a list, a deadline, a few last-minute changes and approximately 47 tabs open in my brain and I’m in my element. 😂

Anyway… off to take some photos. 📸

Although technically I’m already on my way because, obviously, we’re multitasking. 😂

Today I swapped my kitchen table for a co-working space at CoCo - The Coworking Collective and I think I’ve found my new chilled vibe happy place. ☺️

As much as I love working for myself, it can get a little lonely talking to dogs all day and then coming home to sit behind a laptop. So this is just what I needed.

No corporate feel. No stuffy office vibes. Just a relaxed, welcoming space where you can crack on with work, grab a coffee and be around other people doing the same.

A huge thank you to Bethan for making me feel so welcome from the moment I walked in. It genuinely felt like somewhere you could settle in and be productive.

I’ve spent the afternoon working on client content, making a few tweaks to my Spa Town information pack and generally ticking jobs off that have been sat on my to-do list.

Sometimes, a change of scenery is all you need.

If you’re a freelancer, remote worker or run your own business and fancy escaping the kitchen table for a few hours, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try. 💻✨

This weekend has been exactly what I needed. 🌊⛺️

A field. A tent. Sea views. Sunsets. Fresh air.

Running your own business doesn’t always mean sitting behind a desk though.

Between camping, exploring the coastline and taking in the views, I grabbed my phone for a few minutes here and there to get a couple of content posts out for a client when they needed them. No laptop. No office. Just a phone and a bit of planning.

One post has already reached over 9,000 views, and another is well on its way.

That’s one of the things I love most about what I do. My clients know they’re looked after, but I’m still able to enjoy weekends like this without feeling like I’m missing out.

Because that’s what I wanted when I started Spa Town Marketing… a business that fits around my life, not a life that revolves around my business.

Now it’s back to reality tomorrow… but after a weekend of sea air and sunsets, I don’t think I can complain too much. 💚

Had the best time creating this one last night 🤪

Credit to my camera man husband for chasing me around the football field.

The perks of creating content, didn’t even have to buy a bargain wristband 🤣😉
