Do you need a new website or just a refresh?

Not every website problem requires starting from scratch.

It's a question worth asking honestly - because sometimes a focused refresh can transform how a website looks and performs without the time and investment of a full rebuild. And sometimes, only a fresh start will do.

Here's how to tell the difference:

You probably need a refresh if:

✅ The overall structure and content of your site is sound, but it looks dated
✅ You're broadly happy with your platform and just need a visual update
✅ You need better photography, updated copy, or a cleaner layout
✅ Your site works well but doesn't quite reflect your brand anymore
✅ You want to improve performance without changing everything

You probably need a new website if:

❌ Your site isn't mobile friendly and can't easily be made so
❌ You're on an outdated platform that's holding you back
❌ You have no control over your own content and can't get updates made
❌ The structure and user journey are fundamentally broken
❌ Your brand has changed significantly and the site no longer represents you
❌ You're embarrassed to share it with potential customers

The honest answer isn't always the most expensive one. We'll tell you straight - whether that means a quick refresh, a deeper redesign, or a brand new build from the ground up.

At Pob Design, we work with businesses across Caerphilly, Cardiff and all over the UK to find the right solution for their situation and their budget.

Not sure which camp you're in? Get in touch and we'll take an honest look together.

Why Training Changes After 50

3–5%
Muscle lost per decade
Sarcopenia — age-related muscle loss — begins in your 30s and accelerates after 50. Resistance training is the single most effective way to slow or reverse it.

Protein efficiency loss
After 50 the body becomes less efficient at turning dietary protein into muscle. You need significantly more protein per meal to trigger the same muscle-building response.

48–72h
Recovery time needed
Recovery slows with age. Most people over 50 need 48–72 hours between sessions targeting the same muscle group — compared to 24–48 hours for younger adults.

30g
Protein per meal target
Research suggests older adults need at least 30–40g of protein per meal to maximally stimulate muscle protein synthesis — more than the 20–25g sufficient for younger adults.

Understanding what's actually happening in your body helps you train smarter — not just harder.

*** The End is Nigh ***

But not in the way it reads 😂. We have been working tirelessly with the help of Jon at Pobdesign and Owen of Stones Photography Media, writing content and taking pictures for our new website.

The end of all the background work is nigh, we are putting the finishing touches to the website, and we now have a going live date.

All things permitting, this will be Friday the 28th August; the countdown has begun 🎉

Why cheap websites cost more in the long run

It seems like a smart move at the time. Save money upfront, get something basic up and running, and upgrade later when the business grows.

The problem is - later rarely comes. And the cheap website ends up costing far more than a good one would have.

Here's how it tends to play out:

You pay for it in lost business
A website that looks unprofessional or doesn't work properly on mobile is quietly turning customers away every day. Those lost enquiries have a real cost, even if it never appears on an invoice.

You pay for it in fixes
Cheap websites are often built on shaky foundations. When things break, and they do, fixing them can cost more than building properly in the first place.

You pay for it in security
Budget platforms and cut-price builds often skip proper security. A compromised website costs time, money, and reputation to recover from.

You pay for it in your own time
Trying to manage a website that's confusing to update, unreliable to host, or constantly causing problems is a drain on time you don't have.

You pay for it when you rebuild
Many businesses come to us after going through a cheap website first. They end up spending twice - once on the cheap build, and once on getting it done properly.

A well-built website from the start is an investment that pays for itself. We've seen it time and again with businesses across Cardiff, Caerphilly and South Wales.

Let's talk about building something that actually works for your business.

SEO explained in plain English for business owners

SEO. Three letters that make a lot of business owners switch off immediately.

And honestly? That's understandable. It's a topic that's been buried under so much jargon over the years that it's hard to know what to believe.

So here it is in plain English.

What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. It simply means making your website more likely to show up when someone searches for what you offer on Google.

How does Google decide who shows up?
Google sends out bots that crawl the internet and read websites. They're looking at things like - what is this website about? Is it fast? Does it work on mobile? Do other reputable websites link to it? Is the content genuinely useful?

Based on all of that, Google decides where to rank you.

What can you actually do about it?

✅ Make sure your website is fast and mobile friendly
✅ Use the words your customers actually search for - on your pages, in your headings, in your image descriptions
✅ Set up and maintain your Google Business Profile
✅ Get listed in local directories with consistent contact details
✅ Earn links from other reputable local websites

The honest truth about SEO
It's not magic, it's not instant, and anyone promising you the number one spot on Google overnight is not being straight with you. But done properly, over time, it genuinely works.

At Pob Design, we build SEO best practice into every website we create for businesses across Cardiff, Caerphilly and South Wales - it's part of the foundation, not an expensive add-on.
