Paid work opportunity for socially engaged artists (workshops and activities). Great to see that they're budgeting to pay for planning time too!

New opportunity for artists!
We're collaborating with The De La Warr Pavilion to deliver an artistic programme for four East Sussex artists to develop their socially engaged practice across the current academic year.
Selected artists will be paired together to work as a duo. These two artists will deliver creative workshops at one location over four school holidays; Autumn school holiday, February school holiday, Spring school holiday and May school holiday, running workshops that respond to themes in the exhibitions on display...
At the end of the programme the four artists will lead an open workshop for artists reflecting on their experiences, as an evolution of the workshop Acts of Transfer: Sharing Social Practice, held at Towner Eastbourne in May 2022.

Yesterday, I set myself a crazy challenge to get a whole sharing framework in place for my own art practice. I made the decision during ‘s Creatrix Club live that she does every Monday morning on Facebook.
I don’t ever feel like I want to start my working week watching FB but it’s always good to get your head in the exact right place.
I pledged to myself and also to my accountability group that I would set up a blog which I would then publish with a post by the end of the day, along with SM accounts for Insta and FB, a scheduling tool with 50 images in, ready to go AND a post to prove that I’d done it. Oh yeah, and to post to stories along the way, I don’t usually do stories and I should.
Why all the fuss?
Because I’ve not been producing my own work. I can champion others all day, but I’m more reluctant with my own and that can’t stay a thing any more. As a web designer, I hadn’t felt like I could begin anything in the digital space that wasn’t ‘right’. Perfect is always a big stretch, but ‘right and above’ should always be a minimum. In this case though, I let go of all of it and produced a one-page site with one blog post. Now it’s all ready to go, I can fill in the gaps as I go along. If you’d like to know what I get up to here and see the story unfold please join in and follow me .
If you’ve been in a similar situation, I’d recommend just going for it. You’ll achieve more than you think and you may even come to the conclusion that if you haven’t even got a following yet, just doing something is enough. All of a sudden, ‘I am enough’ rang true.
Ring true for yourself and if you have questions, ask away!
Kym x
P.s. if you want to see the crazy process then look in my story highlights and yes, I got the swim 💙

Sharing some sunshine ☀️
You know when you’ve seen an image and it haunts you until you seek it out again? Thoughts of this painting by just kept coming back to me, but it took a long time to find. There’s a lot to rave about but it’s the flower in the eye that really gets me 💛🌼
Have you got some sunshine today? It’s overcast here right now, but warm x

Saturday Share!
From today you can see Laura Menzies showing with at the Crypt Gallery in St Ives UK.
I wish I could be there to see it in person, I’ve been following Laura’s work for several years now and it intrigues me, especially the cold wax process
I love this gallery, apart from the actual space, I enjoy the slightly loose parquet floor towards the back. There are some magical floors in St Ives, two other faves are
and

I’ve always found familiar buildings very comforting. Do you have one?
Anyway, good luck to Laura and do pop in if you can!
Have a great weekend, Kym x

Posted • With only 3 days until my show ‘Mark this Moment’ with opens, I have quite a few things to sort and finalise.

Today I am hoping to finish off one more larger painting, along with titling the new pieces I’ve just got back from the framers. Sometimes the pressure to finish a painting works and sometimes if doesn’t, but I am going to try and enjoy the process today and see what naturally unfolds. I have a few bigger paintings that are now complete, but until we are in the space and start to set up, it’s hard to know what’s going to work together, so I would like a few pieces as back up, so things can be chopped and changed if necessary.

I’ve made a rough plan and will be showing 20-25 paintings, most of which have never been seen before. This means this is going to be my largest and most ambitious exhibition to date, which is really exciting (and also slightly nerve wracking)! I’m looking forward to seeing my work in a new environment and having some time to stop and reflect, as this is such an important part of my creative process and one that allows deeper understanding and introspection regarding myself and my work ✨

Today, honestly, I feel like I’m living my dream.
*started the day in the garden
*came in for breakfast when the bread van arrived
*nearing the end of building a site for a dream client
*I’ve set up my workspace outside opposite who just bought me a coffee 🥰
We’re up on a level with the tree tops, the birds are singing, the sun is high enough to not cause any glare on my screen and the sheep are baaaaing below.
I’m always holding on to my ‘Why?’ But this, this is my aha moment. This is what we’ve been working towards and it’s happening 🙏

I hope something similar is going on for you as the small steps you take towards building your business begin moving you along.

It would have taken much longer to find a way without 🙌, thank you x

P.s. having a photo taken is getting easier. I ASKED for this one!

It’s been very easy to stop reaching out and connecting with people over lockdown, something that I’m trying to redress now as, at last, there seems to be some sort of semblance of normality on the horizon.
Yesterday I had the best catch up with , it had been way too long.
Coming out of our Contemporary Creative Practice degree Callum scooped the first modern apprenticeship with the and hasn’t looked back. He was definitely made for this, please check him out, he’s on a great journey 🙌👉

Could you help me to support life models please?
With the Covid-19 lockdowns, studio models have been some of the hardest hit in the creative sector.
This month I’m working on producing a model-specific template designed to secure an online presence quickly and economically. (Note, a social media following can be gone at the whim of the platform, ask any artist who works in any way with nudity).
Since I’ll be building the site anyway, I’d like it to be of benefit to somebody immediately so I’m going to be doing a giveaway for the completed site along with six month’s hosting.
If you know of anybody this could help, I’d love it if you could ask them to like my page and send me a DM (direct message). I’ll be picking a name out of the hat on 27th June and the model can have their site up and running in July 🙏🤩👌

I’m in heaven. Listening to giving a zoom presentation around her book ‘Life in the Studio’.
Frances is my idol, she is pots, she is flowers, especially my favourites and . She photographs all her own work and shared recipes, bees, her insights from successes and hindsights.
If you’ve never come across this amazing woman please check her out, there’s no end of inspiration in her creative life 🙏

I’d love to do a website for a florist or flower grower. Or a botanical artist?

When life got a bit sticky a few years ago there were three things that held me together.
* Trust in the love of my family
* A few precious paintings
* My plants

Wherever life takes me I seem to end up sorting out the plants before anything else -except maybe a blanket!

I currently have plants started here that travelled over 1000 miles with me to this new home. They came as sticks or leaves, definitely part of the journey.

Do you have a special relationship with a particular plant? I know you do 😹x
