One of the things I enjoy most about this work is how many different elements come together behind the scenes.

From the outside it can look like a creative decision, but there’s usually a lot more sitting underneath it.

Of course creative thinking plays a part, but also production knowledge, material choices, and understanding how a brand should actually feel once it’s out in the world.

Quite often each project ends up being a balance between creativity and practicality. The idea needs to work visually, but it also needs to behave properly once it’s printed, embroidered, worn or handled. When that balance is right, the end result tends to feel very natural.

And to be honest isn't that the goal? Branding that feels considered without looking like it tried too hard.

Out of curiosity, do you tend to notice the craft behind branding, or is it something you only really notice when it’s missing?

One thing that stands out in branding over time is how much consistency quietly shapes trust.

It not necessarily the loud moments and the big campaigns, it's just the small things showing up the way people expect them to.

Key elements like a colour that looks the same whether it’s printed, embroidered or on a screen and a logo that sits properly, on a hoodie, a sign or a business card, can make all the difference. All these things make a brand feel considered rather than an afterthought.

None of those decisions feel particularly dramatic when they’re being made, but they start to add up once a brand is out in the world.

People may not consciously notice every detail, but they do tend to notice when something feels slightly off. Those moments might seem small, but they chip away at the overall impression.

When everything aligns, though, the opposite happens. Things feel calm, considered, reliable. And over time that quiet reliability is often what builds the most trust.

Do you tend to notice consistency in a brand, or is it something you only really notice when it’s missing?

I’ve found that quite a few projects reach a point where everything looks fine on the surface.

It works. It looks okay. Nothing is obviously wrong, and it could quite easily be left there.

But those are often the moments where a small adjustment can make the biggest difference later on.

It might be a material choice, a production method, or a placement detail. Nothing dramatic, just a decision that helps something last longer or represent a brand more consistently once it’s actually out in the world.

Quite often those decisions happen quietly in the background. And if they’re made well, nobody really notices, which is how it should be.

But they do tend to notice when they’re missed.

It’s a good reminder that the difference between something being fine and something being right often comes down to the details.

Every industry seems to have certain brand touchpoints that matter more than others.

In some sectors it’s packaging. In others it might be uniforms, signage, or the printed materials people handle every day. Those smaller, everyday interactions often shape people’s perception of a brand far more than the bigger marketing moments.

I genuinely find it so interesting how something quite simple can quietly influence how a business or brand is perceived.

Out of curiosity, which branded touchpoint do you think has the biggest impact in your industry?

Over time I’ve noticed that experience changes the way I make decisions.

Earlier on it’s quite easy to focus on how something looks. Whether it feels creative enough, bold enough, visually interesting.

These days I find myself thinking more about how something will behave once it’s out in the world.

Will it last?
Will it still look right after repeated use?
Can it be reproduced consistently without things drifting over time?

The creative side never really goes away, it just gets balanced with a slightly different kind of thinking.

And in the long run, that balance tends to make the biggest difference.

Have you found your perspective shifting over time as well?

Most branding starts on a screen, but that’s rarely where it truly lives.

Mockups get attached to emails and presentations happen on video calls. But most brands are actually experienced away from a screen, in a much more physical way.

It’s on the clothing people wear, on the printed materials people handle, and even on the signage they pass every day.

That shift from digital to physical is where a lot of important decisions sit. Things like durability, texture, colour accuracy and scale all play a part in how people perceive and experience a brand.

The best branding usually feels quite effortless when you encounter it.

🧡 Colours work together.
🧡 Materials feel right.
🧡 Everything appears consistent.

But that ease usually comes from a lot of careful thinking beforehand.

🧡 Choosing the right production methods.
🧡 Understanding how different materials behave.
🧡 Making sure a brand translates well across different formats.

When those things are considered early, the end result often feels simple, which is usually the point.

Over the years I’ve worked with a lot of talented people across the creative and production industries, and many of them happen to be women quietly doing exceptional work behind the scenes.

Designers, production managers, printers, embroiderers, marketers, the list goes on.

A lot of their work happens behind the scenes, but it plays a huge role in how brands are built and represented every day.

International Women’s Day feels like a good moment to recognise that contribution, and to appreciate the collaboration that sits behind so many projects.

It’s interesting how often the smallest branding details end up making the biggest difference.

It's all about how a logo translates onto different materials and whether colours stay consistent across clothing, print and signage,. It's even how something feels when people actually interact with it. None of those things feel dramatic individually, but together they shape how a brand is experienced.

And when they’re handled well, people often notice the result without quite knowing why.

I don’t know about you, but I get a quiet little buzz when I see something we’ve worked on out in the real world.

Not on a screen. Not as a proof. But actually there, on a shelf, being picked up, becoming part of someone’s everyday life.

It’s funny because most people will never think about the label, the finish, the stock, or how it was printed but those little details matter. They shape how something feels, whether it feels trustworthy, premium and thought-through.

Especially in beauty, packaging carries a lot of weight as it has to live up to what’s inside.

I’m always quietly proud of the team when I see it all come together . There’s a lot of care behind the scenes that never gets seen and that’s often the best kind of work.

For me, this is where brand thinking and production really meet. The idea is important and the ex*****on is everything but when both align, that’s when something feels ready for the real world.

Anyway…that’s my Sunday reflection.

Something I’ve realised over time is that a lot of this job is about solving problems people never even see.

Sometimes it’s spotting something early that might not work long term. Sometimes it’s adjusting a material, a print method or a layout before it becomes an issue. Other times it’s simply knowing when to slow something down slightly so it’s done properly.

None of those things are particularly visible once a project is finished. If everything works as it should, they usually go completely unnoticed, which is honestly the best outcome.

I’ve always thought the goal isn’t just to create something that looks good when it’s delivered. It’s to make sure it continues to work quietly in the background for as long as it needs to.
