A little shoutout to the friends who support their friends’ businesses. ❤️

The ones who like your posts, leave a comment, share your content and tag your business when someone asks for a recommendation.

The ones who say, “My friend does that I’ll send you their number.”

The ones who recommend you in rooms you’re not even in.

Because when you run a small business, that kind of support means SO much.

You don’t have to buy from your friend every week to support their business.

Sometimes a like, a share, a comment or simply telling someone about them can make a much bigger difference than you realise.

Here’s to the friends who cheer loudly, recommend freely and want to see you win. 🫶

Tag yours below they deserve to know you appreciate them. 👇

You built your own website… but when did you last actually USE it like a customer? 👀

DIY website builders are brilliant. I have experience working with Wix, Squarespace, Shopify and Vistaprint, and you can absolutely create a great small business website using them.

But getting it online is only the beginning.

Have you checked the smaller details too?

• Do all your buttons, forms and links work?
• Are you using internal links to help people move around your website?
• Have you added relevant SEO keywords so search engines understand what you offer?
• Do you have a favicon rather than a generic browser icon?
• Are your images, page decorations and branding consistent?
• Is your website easy to use on mobile?
• Is the copy broken into easy-to-read sections?
• Are your photos and testimonials up to date?
• Have you removed duplicated or unnecessary information?

And if you’ve used AI for your website copy, brilliant use it to your advantage. But please read and edit it before publishing. Your website should still sound like your business, not like ChatGPT suddenly moved to America. 😂

Your website doesn’t need to be ridiculously fancy.

It needs to be easy to find, easy to understand and easy for your customer to use.

Built your own website but feel like it needs a professional tidy-up? I can help with that too. 👋

Here’s something that might make you look at your follower count very differently…

Around 70% of my clients didn’t even follow me when they converted.

Yep. They became paying clients without ever hitting the follow button.

People can still:

• See your posts
• Find you through search
• Have you recommended to them
• Visit your profile
• Read your content
• Check your website
• Look at your reviews
• Decide you’re the right person for them

…without becoming a follower first.

And then there are the silent followers who watch everything but never like or comment.

Until one day:

“Hi, I’ve been looking at your page for a while…”

👀 There they are.

This is why I keep saying followers and likes aren’t the end goal.

You want your content to build visibility, recognition and trust with the right people whether they follow you or not.

Imagine if I’d judged whether my social media was working purely by my follower count.

Your customers matter more than your followers. Every time.

Find out who you are and do it on purpose.” Dolly Parton ❤️

There’s something about this that feels especially poignant this week.

In business, it’s so easy to look at what everyone else is doing their branding, their social media, their services, their success and start thinking you need to do the same.

You don’t.

Build a brand that feels like you.
Talk to your customers.
Run your business in a way that works for your life.

Dolly certainly knew a thing or two about being unmistakably herself and following the sad news of her passing this week, this feels like a lovely little reminder to take from her. ❤️

Happy National Dog Day to the actual management team behind Social Media with Jodie. 🐶

Their daily responsibilities include:

• Supervising all content creation from the comfiest seat available
• Requesting breaks at highly inconvenient times
• Providing absolutely no useful input during brainstorming sessions
• Appearing in the background of calls when they feel like it
• Making sure I get away from the laptop and outside for some fresh air
• Demanding payment exclusively in treats

To be fair, that last-but-one is probably their most important job.

When you run a small business from home, your colleagues can look a little different. Mine just happen to have four legs and very questionable work ethics. 😂

Happy National Dog Day to all the other four-legged friends 🐾

Someone can follow you for months, watch every Reel and genuinely enjoy your content…

…and still not feel ready to buy from you.

Because attention and trust aren’t the same thing.

Your content needs to do more than entertain. Give your potential customers reasons to feel confident choosing you:

• Share your knowledge
• Answer the questions they’re already asking
• Show real reviews and customer experiences
• Explain your products or services clearly
• Let them see the real business behind the posts

Your social media should help someone go from “I like their content” to “I trust them with my money.”

Don’t just give people a reason to follow you.

Give them a reason to choose you.

Your brand isn’t supposed to appeal to everyone.

And that’s a good thing.

The strongest brands know exactly who they’re talking to.

Your tone, visuals, content and messaging should make the right people think:

“Yep, this business is for me.”

Some people won’t connect with your style. Some won’t agree with your approach. Some simply won’t need what you offer.

You don’t need to change your brand to win them over.

Trying to speak to everyone usually leaves you speaking directly to no one.

Know your audience. Understand what matters to them. Create content for your people.

Because you don’t need everyone to choose your business.

You need the right customers to.

Just checking because we’ve spoken about this… 😂

If your post only got 12 likes, that doesn’t automatically mean it flopped.

Someone could see your content, visit your profile, check your website and come back three weeks later to book without liking a single thing.

In fact, around 70% of my own clients weren’t even following me when they converted.

So yes, look at your likes and followers.

But don’t let them become the only numbers you care about.

Your goal isn’t to collect followers. It’s to attract customers. 👀

“I recommended you to a friend.” 🥹

Honestly, is there a better compliment as a small business owner?

You trusted my business enough to put your name behind recommending mine and that means more than you probably realise.

Word of mouth will always be one of the most powerful forms of marketing. ❤️

I’ve been having a little refresh over here… 👀

I realised I was getting far too caught up in patterns on my Instagram grid making sure everything sat in the right place and flowed perfectly.

And I KNOW exactly when it became my problem… the second Instagram gave us the option to reorder the grid. 😂

Suddenly I could move everything around and make it just right… and apparently my brain took that as a personal challenge.

So I’ve had to snap myself back to reality and remember the advice I give everyone else. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Your grid does NOT need to be perfect.

Yes, you want consistent branding.
Yes, you want your page to look professional and recognisable.

But your potential customers aren’t sitting there checking whether post number 7 lines up beautifully with post number 4. 😂

So, I’ve decided it’s time for a change!

I’ve been creating some new designs that still feel like me and my brand, but give me much more freedom with what I post and I can’t wait to show you.

Consistent branding? Absolutely.
Perfectly coordinated grid? Not necessary.

Sometimes even your Social Media Manager needs reminding to take her own advice. 👀😂

Anyone else feel this pressure 🫠
