My mum, Delia Garnett of Sheriff Hill, Gateshead, died on the 26th of May. She was 83. She leaves behind a large family - her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was an ordinary woman who lived an extraordinary life the way the best of them do, by getting on with it and finding the good. She survived more loss than anyone should have to carry and still walked into every room as the life and soul of it. She made everyone welcome and told you exactly what she thought whether you'd asked for her opinion or not. We were used to that and we loved her for it.
She was a wonderful grandmother, always down on the floor playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and still playing with them once they were grown up (even when she hadn't the faintest idea what their games were about!). She just wanted to be in it with them.
I want to say a big thank you to Michael, Claire, Ben, Leigh and Kayleigh for the love and hands-on support they gave her over her last few years.
We're saying goodbye to her on Friday 12th June at 9.45am at Saltwell Crematorium, Gateshead, followed by a celebration of her life at The Whickham House, Bensham Road, Gateshead. We'd love to invite everyone who knew her to come along and raise a glass to her (she’d insist on a pint of Baileys) in memory of the wonderful woman she was.
