For many of us, Eastertime provides the chance to have a respite from all the challenges of working or running a business and much valued time to re-charge our batteries.

It is also a time to celebrate everything that you have achieved in the first quarter of the year.

As an owner of a micro-business myself, taking time out to reflect is important. Reviewing what my goals were, what I have done to achieve them, understanding the successes as well as the things that did not go so well, and how it might be done differently next time, are vital to being able to set my action plan for the next quarter, and take the business forward.

Marketing is often about planning the future, but it is equally important to stop and reflect on the past too. Then you can develop a plan that takes account of both strands and can move forward in the right direction.

When was the last time you stopped to reflect on your business marketing?

Do you know what is working really well, and efficiently? Do you know where some improvements can be made?

Have you identified what your goals are going to be for the next three months?

How will you know if you have achieved them?

These are common questions I ask a business when first engaging with them. Whether it is in the capacity as a mentor, or as a marketer, the approach if often the same.

Support from relevant experts is so worthwhile, especially when you are facing challenges that are affecting your business success. I should know. I have benefited over the last few years from superb support and advice from business coaches, I am Lucy Rennie and Liz Horsey

So, I wonder whether I could help you?

With more than 30 years B2B and B2C marketing experience, in both on and offline marketing techniques across multiple sectors, I bring experience of what can work, and what might not.

If you want to find out more about how we might be able to work together, then please just DM me. You have nothing to lose, and hopefully loads to gain.

Are you finding it a struggle to kickstart your marketing plans for 2023?

Do you know what your top priorities are for this year?

Have you imagined what your business might look like in 12 months’ time?

Do you recognise any factors or distractions that might hinder you achieving your ambitions?

Have you got loads of ideas and don’t know which ones to try to your business move onwards and upwards?

Have you got any practical support that will help you to get to where you want to be?

If the answer to any of these questions is NO, then it sounds to me like you could do with a MARKETING BUDDY to share your thoughts and ambitions, and to help you get to that next stage.

By working collaboratively, we could put in place an effective plan in a matter of hours (well, maybe days). By using your knowledge of your business and customers with my marketing experience, knowledge, and skills, you would be surprised at what could be achieved.

It takes just one action from you – contacting me. It’s got to be worth a chat, right? Please message me, I would love to hear from you.

I hope you have enjoyed a restful, and relaxing festive season, and were able to enjoy much valued time with your family, and friends.

For me, it was a quiet one, with lots of cooking and baking and just enjoying time to unwind, reflect and plan for the next 12 months.

It is clear that 2023 is going to be more challenging than most would want it to be, but looking at it positively, which is what I am known to do, it could also bring about a change in direction, renewed business connections, long term partnerships, new client opportunities and so much more.

Marketing is a key discipline that plays a major role in any business whatever is happening around it.

Whether it is tweaking your promotional plans, reviewing your pricing policies, adapting your product range, or considering alternative ways to present and distribute your product/service - these are all factors that can influence your business in the next twelve months and beyond.

I look forward to being able to support you in achieving your business goals.

PS. Ask me about conducting a Marketing Review - during January I am offering some FREE support - so be one of the first to get in touch.

If you are like me at the moment, you are spinning lots of plates, and trying to achieve so many different things at once, that it is getting a little overwhelming.

From a business perspective, PLANNING is always an important and pro-active action.

Whether it is for this week, next month or for the forthcoming year - it is always helpful to think about where you want to be?, where you are now?, and what the actions are going to get you there?

Always be as realistic as possible - after all you want to achieve the tasks and not have a long list of things still to do.

I find that during the festive season I get easily distracted with one thing and another - but if I make a 'To-do-list' at the start of each day, I then know what is on my mind to accomplish. At the end of the day, I then tick off what is done, and then carry over any tasks/actions to the next day or week.

If you don't feel like you have a Marketing Plan at the moment or know even how to start for 2023 - that's where I can help.

You may not want to talk now, but message me if you would like a FREE one-hour planning session in the New Year to talk about your ideas and where you want to be maybe this time next year.

I am proud to call I am Lucy Rennie a friend, confidante, business coach, marketer, and now an author.

I worked with Lucy in a previous life, and now benefit from her support, guidance and entrepreneurial direction as a Business Coach as well as being the host and creator of the The Future-Proof Club (Members only).

As you will read, today is huge in terms of achievement for Lucy. Today sees her first book being published.

As business owners we all probably need support at some time or another - and being able to read a book is such a good way to get the insight and motivation that we need.

I highly recommend this to everyone.

Today's the day I finally get to share with you my book! 😜

CLARITY, COMMUNICATION & CONNECTION, Three Clear Steps to Future-Proof your Business is now available on Amazon!

And today you can get a copy for the fab price of just 99p!

Would you like to feel more in control of your small business? Maybe you’re tired of the constant fire-fighting?

Imagine how different your life would be if you knew you had found a way to attract and retain more of the right kind of people for you. The kind of people who love what you do, who value your product or service and who want to shout about you from the rooftops.

How amazing would you feel if you could build a successful and sustainable business in your own way, without having to do anything that makes you feel icky or uncomfortable?

With my book CLARITY, COMMUNICATION & CONNECTION, Three Clear Steps to Future-Proof your Business, I’m on a mission to help as many small business owners as I can to Future-Proof their businesses.

I’m a huge champion for small business, and a massive believer in the fact that people do business with people, and I want to help you to harness the power of people, relationships and goodwill to reap the benefits of what I refer to as the “TripAdvisor effect.”

The book brings together all my experience and learning from more than 25 years of working in business around the world, backed up by my passion for small business and my belief that it really is all about people and that small businesses should be a force for good.

It's far from perfect, but in a way that's OK, because I want it to be one of those books that you keep in your back pocket or by the side of your bed. One where you make notes in the margin!

When you get your copy you'll get access to some complimentary resources that accompany the book, including a downloadable workbook, a FREE month in The Future-Proof Club, my membership for small business owners, and a FREE invitation to attend my live online masterclass on the 1st November - Three Clear Steps to Future-Proof your Business.

And finally, you may be aware that I’m a trustee of a wonderful charity that provides opportunities for vulnerable adults and children to participate in high-quality creative arts projects, built on a belief that the arts can be a tool for change in people’s lives. With this in mind, 10% of all profits from the sale of my book will be donated to High Peak Community Arts and will provide much-needed funding for new and existing projects.

A special thank you to everyone at Authors & Co Abigail Horne, Lucy Crane, Jo Gilbert , Louisa Herridge , Matthew Jones and Deeanne Adams for supporting me at every stage of writing the book, to Kirsty Holden Clare Purkiss and Dave Bird for all your help behind the scenes and to my gorgeous husband and best friend Paul Rennie for putting up with me and encouraging me to keep going every day.

Is this happening to you?

This week I contacted a popular magazine company and a leading media and entertainment company about their increased subscription charges that appeared on my bank statement.

Like us all, I am scrutinizing costs ever more thoroughly, to ensure that the right charges are being applied, and to identify any opportunities to save or reduce costs.

This routine led me to noticing a change in the charges.

When approaching the two culprits in question, I asked about their process of communicating the changes, what needed to happen to obtain a refund and the length of time it might take to resolve the matter.

Facilitating such queries is just as important as the process of selling. How a business handles these types of processes with their customers WILL determine whether they retain that customer or lose them forever.

Not being forthcoming with key facts unless prompted is a particular frustration, as is the speed in which refunds are made - in one case at least 14 working days - when in fact the error was theirs in the first place - is a particular sore point for me, and not an acceptable process.

I have been left feeling disillusioned with these two businesses, and, in one case, have cancelled all subscriptions, as their processes are not robust, and refunds take a ridiculous time.

PROCESSES is one of seven key elements in the marketing mix as a business develops its marketing strategy and can often not be taken as seriously as it should.

How and what a customer experiences of company processes DOES impact on their trust, confidence and desire to continue to use.

When was the last time you reviewed your processes? Have you had anyone sensor check them recently? Have you asked your colleagues whether they have any suggestions from customers? Have you asked your customers for feedback?

This is something that I can help with. Not only do I like being a mystery shopper to experience these things for myself, but also to help businesses shape more customer friendly processes, that will engender support and loyalty.

If you want to know more, then please do get in touch. I would love to hear from you.

Is your website up-to-date?

Customer habits vary and while some may only use social media as the source of their ‘truth’, others might start with a website, and then check other sources, including social media for the information they need.

Here is an example of what I mean in the hospitality industry.

Last week I wanted to go out locally for an evening meal with some friends to a pub that I had never been to before. My first point of reference was the internet. I searched for the respective pubs websites to check out their menus and opening times.

Of the 7 pubs I checked, only one had an up-to-date menu featured! The others had menus that were out-of-date, with one even dated from 2019!

Many had opening times on their website, but did not specifically mention mealtimes, so you were not really sure what was available and when.

This left me feeling very disillusioned and dismissive of the pubs that delivered a poor experience.

This might seem a really trivial example, but the bottom line is that for me these issues ultimately impacted on whether I chose to go for a meal or not to that particular venue.

What would you do in the same situation?

At a time when every booking counts in this industry sector, I would urge hospitality venues to ensure that they do update their websites frequently, and almost as often as their social media channels. Afterall, there are many reasons why this should be the case, and its not just to improve searching rankings.

Managing customer expectations and recognising that not all customers will be prepared to trawl lots of different reference points to find out information they want before making a decision. It could make the difference between a booking or not.

In my mind, this type of discipline and action is easy to solve, as long as customer communication and service is a priority to you.

Updating a website can be quick and fast for those who know how, and something that can be easily trained too.

If you want to ensure you are meeting your customer expectations, then why not let us have a chat. Whether it be updating the website, mystery shopping or reviewing your promotional activities to consider ways to make them even more effective, then just reach out.

It will cost you nothing except your time and it could well benefit you hugely.
