A business card is a great opportunity to make a lasting first impression. When I redesigned Happy Heat’s website, a lot of effort was put into adding personality to their website. I wanted to bottle that relief and happiness you feel after a heating repair and pop the lid all over the digital experience. So each time I design a new print asset I want to encapsulate that same emotion and personality that makes Happy Heat so unique. A burst of colour, a matching icon set and consistent tone of voice helped to bring the business cards to life and take the brand in a unified direction. 👉🏽 check out their cool website at happyheat.co.uk

🚨A new logo for a team and organisation bursting with pride! Coachella Valley Pride Hockey (Eagles)

When I was emailed late one night with a new logo request for an ice hockey team of course I jumped out of bed and grabbed my sketchbook.

I love creating and being somewhat of a night owl, most of my better ideas come when admittedly I should be sleeping!

The logo request came from the Coachella Valley Pride Hockey organisation based in Palm Springs, CA. Their mission is “to introduce hockey to the LGBTQ+ community and enjoy the great game of hockey in a safe and inclusive space.”

This mission needed to be echoed in their new logo. When starting a new design project, it’s paramount to have a starting base point or a strong brief. So that mission was my starting block.

It was a pleasure being invited by Quantum Managed Services Group to the Olympic Stadium for the West Ham game earlier this week. It capped off an exciting few months working together to launch their new website and refreshed branding.

On Monday they were the official match day sponsors for the matchweek 8 fixture between West Ham and Brentford. As a designer (and massive Gooner) their branding popping up on the jumbotrons around the Olympic Stadium hit me more than any of the goals scored on the night.

Working late into the summer nights on their new brand and website, I could never have imagined just 8 weeks later the same logo would be plastered around a 68,000 capacity Stadium during a televised English Premier league football game.

It wasn’t the result the Hammers wanted but the experience certainly hammered home some realities that night. A truly humbling experience and a reminder of the importance of having 100% pride and trust in your craft and abilities.

🚨New website launch: Quantum Leaping into a new digital space!

📋 QMSG’s website brief was short, “we want a new website”. But sometimes that’s all it takes to get the cogs in my head going! Their original website felt a bit cold due to too much dark space and stock imagery.

🟢 I created a new colour swatch, changing the black for a dark green and they dark greys for off whites with hints of complimentary tones. The idea was to soften the harshness of the colour clash all whilst keeping a balanced contrast to still make their branded green pop.

👾 For us 80’s babies the word ‘quantum’ evokes thoughts of movement, dare I say ‘leaping.’ So, I wanted to create some moving parts on the website. Most of the hero elements across the website are animated with time lapse videos or similar. Along with the videos I created a glass effect UI for the overlays, so you can see the moving parts beneath the overlays albeit slightly blurred.

🖥️ Bespoke isometric icons were created to tie into the tech theme. A new oversized menu was created exclusively for the mobile version of the website utilising icons as clear touch targets to identify each service area.

👉🏽 When you put all the pieces together, I feel that I created a website that is consistent in branding, look and feel and usability. Once you visit one page you immediately know how to navigate the website.

👉🏽 I’m pleased with how it turned out. From the glass UI elements to the soft green tones, the icon set and the font type, I think the glow up for QMSG has been one of real value and I hope it elevates their business to another level.

So exciting to see these signs go up! When the winter evenings arrive and the backlit lights turn on, it’s going to be a real glowing statement piece on the London Borough of Harrow HQ!

🚨 New website: Launching a new brand into the clouds over the Yorkshire Dales!

📹 Reelium Studio is a new Yorkshire based company specialising in commercial drone videography, photography, specialised editing and 3D modelling.

👫 A new family run venture, we collaborated over the summer to bring their new business online to help showcase their work and capture new and local business.

🟠🟤 Reelium Studio has a strong brand identity using earthy tones of browns and sand with a splash of their signature orange. I continued this theme throughout the website in calls to actions and icons in orange tones to tie into the overall theme.

📸 The goal of their website is to sell their services and expertise, so I made sure that all media displayed optimally and where possible, filled a large proportion of the screen.

🙏🏼 It was a pleasure to work with Reelium and help them launch their new business ‘up norf’. I’m excited to be collaborating with them later this summer for my website so watch this airspace!

🔎 A little spotlight on my favourite UI elements I’ve designed over the years:

👉 Next up: The Fat Crab

🦀 The Fat Crab (a local business in Harrow) were the very first to bring the flavours of the deep south seafood boil to the UK and infuse it with flavours from their Sri Lankan roots.

🥇 Whilst the seafood boil industry has really taken off in the UK in recent years, The Fat Crab were the first ones to do it way back in 2014.

👑 They are proudly known as the king of seafood boil in the UK bringing some of the rarest catches in the world to your tables in Harrow, Stratford, Clapham and Surrey. Their flavours are often imitated but never replicated.

🚀 I love to see local businesses thrive especially in the town I grew up in. Take a look at how I helped grow a humble start-up into a thriving brand with four locations in and around London.

🍟🦐 Check them out at thefatcrab.com
Tempted to give it a try? Live in London? Seafood lover? I highly recommend the lemon pepper fries and the jumbo prawn (it’s the size of your head!)
